"Leaving?"
Chelsea's eyes scrunched up in confusion. Leaning forward, her right hand shot to her enflamed knee as she winced in pain with her eyes closed.
"What do you mean we're leaving?"
Maggie, whose arms were originally crossed, rested them by her sides quickly. She looked upset with me, but after apologizing with her previously, I really didn't want to do it again.
"We don't have enough money for another hotel. There's no where else to go."
Turning my head back, I noticed Colin, Sean, and Steven were directing people where they needed to go. Some were easy to convince while others seemed upset that they couldn't go back up stairs to find their luggage. After all, who knew if it was safe to go up there or not even though my friends seemed to have confiscated our things beforehand. I wonder who gathered the courage to go up the stairs without being spotted by any of the security guards?
"I'm really sorry guys."
I turn back to face their confused faces.
"I hate to leave too, but the building is on lockdown by the police. We have to leave.
"Where will we go?"
Ann asked who remained silent throughout the conversation. She seemed to be observing the situation just as I was doing previously before.
"Maggie's right. We didn't come all this way for nothing. That hotel room was reserved and it wasn't very cheap either."
Why all of a sudden were all of my friends against me? This wasn't my fault. Was it?
"Guys, I'm sorry!"
I pleaded with them when I see the same burly police officer approaching us.
"What more do you want me to do?"
"How about keeping your promises."
Maggie sarcastically suggested.
My head tilted in defense, but deep down she was right. Never keep a promise that you can't keep.
"You know what?"
I asked her with my arms crossed.
"You're right. I broke my promise that this wouldn't happen again, but it has. I may not have control with the supernatural, but you can't hold it against me since I never planned for this to happen again. But I can promise I will protect you and keep you safe."
"Girls?"
The policeman finally approached us.
"What are you still doing here? You need to line up with the others."
About to turn away, he quickly notices Chelsea's bandage on her knee.
"Are you hurt? Do you need us to call an ambulance?"
The thought of it caused Chelsea's eyes to widen in fear.
"No, that's all right, officer."
Jordan came to her rescue hurriedly.
"I'm sure she'll be fine. Won't you, Chelsea?"
He gave her a smile. Nodding her head, Chelsea grinned while nodding her head in an up and down motion.
The officer appeared satisfied when he nodded toward our things.
"All right then, go grab your stuff."
"Thank you, sir."
Jordan replied politely as he hoisted Chelsea up with his strong arms.
"Do you want me to carry you?"
He asked obviously knowing the answer to that one.
"Yes, please."
Chelsea tried to hide her growing grin, but failed miserably. After all the years I've known her, she can not hide her emotions whatsoever no matter how hard she tried too.
We each grab our own bag of stuff before being ushered away to the lobby by the police. They must be in a hurry. Probably so since we're the last ones to leave.
"Wait!"
A familiar voice stops us from walking out the door lobby.
"I'm really sorry about this."
Colin apologizes again as he approached us along with the hotel manager trailing behind.
"It's not your fault."
I answered him quietly while watching the last of the families walk out the doors.
"You have to do what you have to do. Safety is an important key right now."
As soon as the word key flew out of my mouth, a flash of remembrance flooded my brain. The key to room 209! It was still in my pocket!
