ch.11 Changes

Alex woke up with the worst headache he had ever had, and his body felt as if it was being torn apart. He looked to Vera, who was still wrapped tightly around him. The light from the sun felt as if it was trying to tear his eyes out. He placed his hand in front of his face to block it out and was startled at what he saw. His fingernails had been replaced by sharp black claws, and small scaly patterns had appeared at different places in his arms. He licked his teeth only to find that they had grown back, only they were a lot more of them, and they were sharp! It was then that he actually started to comprehend what he was seeing. He tried to stand up, but quickly was pulled back down by Vera's weight. He started to panic and struggled against her. It was then that she woke.
She woke to a familiar scent, though it was different. She knew what she smelled was Alex, though there was a new scent attached, as if his body has changed it somehow. She then started to recognize this new scent. He smelled of raptor! And it wasn't her that she smelled on him. In fact, it wasn't any other raptor she smelled, somehow the smell was fused with his! Her eyes shot open and she looked him in the eyes, she was reassured when she recognized them. At least he still looked the same. That's when she looked down at his hands. She was startled at the sight. She didn't see that he had claws before, in fact she knew he didn't! There were even new patches of scales on him. She stood so he could move, and when he did he was overcome with pain. His body felt as if it was tearing itself apart. Stop it! Stop it! He kept trying to clear his head, grasping and pulling at his hair. Suddenly, everything cleared, and all of his senses seemed to have heightened to their maximum ability. He looked around, at the trees, the grass, and they seemed so perfectly clear, not only that, but he could smell them. He continued to look around, smelling the berries, and the leaves. Then, He looked at Vera. She smelled sweet and warm and she smelled of the dirt and the grass and the beach, and she looked even better, with smooth almost scaly skin that shined in the light and big blue eyes that stared back at him. She was beautiful, and He was glad that he was with her. He walked over and gave her a hug. Vera wrapped her neck around his and they held each other for a long while. Vera slowly lifted her head and rubbed her face against his, and He pulled away just enough to look her in her eyes. Her eyes were the perfect mix of blue and a dark blue ring that lined both sides of her pupils. Vera stood up and waited patiently for Alex. Once he stood, she started to walk to were the bushes met in the center. Vera walked straight up to it and pushed through, though when Alex went through the bush, thorns and branches scraped his sides. Vera stopped, and so did Alex. To their right, a small, unseen predator lurked in the bushes. It slithered its way up to Alex, and when it had climbed the Bush up to the height of Alex's shoulder, prepared to strike. Alex heard the high pitched hiss just before the snake attacked and had just enough time to slash at it, impaling its head mid-strike with one of his claws. He threw the snake on the ground. He was impressed by what he had done! His reflexes were always good, but they had never been this good before. He pushed his way up to beside Vera to see what she was looking at.
Before them laid a field, covered in yellow grass almost five feet tall, and surrounded on all sides by a thick tree line. The field was huge, almost a mile across, and more than a mile wide. They were preparing to enter the field when a massive roar filled the air and forced them back into cover. Gunshots rang out, followed by screaming and the shouting of orders. a dozen soldiers flooded out from the right side of the field and when they were a quarter of the way across the field they turned and opened fire as the massive Spinosaurus burst through the treeline and into the field. The Spinosaurus stopped abruptly, and raised his chest and head into the air and let out a deafening roar that caused some of the soldiers to fall over and others to turn and run in a final attempt to escape the tyrant that towered only meters away from them. They hadn't gotten far before the great reptile finished and once again turned to the seven remaining soldiers that had held their ground and were unloading round after round into it with little difference considering that the bullets did little more than pierce the skin and aggravate it. The Spinosaurus charge the closest two and while one rolled away, one was quickly grabbed by the awaiting jaws of the giant, and tossed into the air, only to fall back into the creatures mouth and swallowed in own swift motion. the spinosaurus turned its head to the other soldier and in an instant brought its teeth down around him and twisted its head, ripping him in half. The remaining eleven men forfeited their retreat and joined in on the assault. the continuing turret of bullets only further enraged it. it snapped its head to the left, knocking two of the soldiers twenty five feet were they laid deformed and motionless in unnerving positions that clearly weren't natural. it continued in its original path and ran up to another pair of soldiers and snatched one up in its mouth and bit down hard crunching through his bones and with one long swipe of its arm, cut through the other soldiers vest leaving large lacerations in his chest. the Spinosaurus dropped the limp body from its jaws and continued on its rampage while the other soldier laid on the ground screaming in pain. the spinosaurus killed three more men before reinforcements came. eight men broke through the treeline in order to help the remaining four soldiers from the original attack, armed with high voltage stun rifles and net launchers. The six that were carrying stun rifles proceeded to open fire, stunning the Spinosaurus and causing all of its muscles to tense under the great amount of electricity that was coursing through its body. The four remaining soldiers from the original group fled into the treeline (were Alex and Vera were hiding).
