It was about five in the morning when my phone began ringing.
I was curled up on Duke's arms, playing with his hand in front of me, examining just how different we were in the most simplest of ways.
His fingers were long, porcelain white, double my hand size. Mine were almost child like, petite, coloured lightly tan brown and visible veins blue and purple.I sat up, pressing green on my phone and pressing it to my ear
"Callum?" I answered urgently
"Rosie? Hey! What's up?" He asked, excited
"We need to talk, it's urgent"
"Oh, kay" He slowly spoke, scared almost
"First off, you should have told me you were going to send someone to spy on me" I began full speed ahead "Second, you should have told me you were having a huge ass meeting, and third, you should have told me what they had decided. I want something done about it, you aren't going to take away the only family I have left, not without loosing me in the process" I demanded, sounding as forcefull as I could
He was quiet for a second, adjusting to the information before speaking
"Look, Rosie, I'm sorry about all that, I really am, I tried to talk them out of it, but it was no use, they see it as a huge opportunity" He started
"Callum, I'm telling you right now, if you don't do something..." I racked my brain, watching Duke as he intently watched me listening to our conversation with his hawk like ears "I'm not coming back, at all" I threatened, making it up on the spot as Duke stared at me in surprise
"What are you talking about Rosie?" Callum spoke, angry
"I'm not going to let you take them away from me, I don't care who I have to hurt and who I have to leave behind. I will fight against you if I have too, so make the choice Callum" I spat, letting my wild side take over before I pressed the red button, hanging up on him.
Duke stared at me as I placed the phone down on the bed, lightly shaking at what I had just done.
I'd just threatened my best friend, my Angel best friend for my Vampire boyfriend."That was intense" Duke smirked "Are you sure what you're doing is the right thing? I mean, I will understand if you want to sit on the fence here" Duke continued, fixing his sensible statement up
"I'm sure" I nodded
As I thought about it, my phone vibrated lighting up with a new message.
I picked it up and read over the words, it was from Callum.'Don't do anything stupid. I'll try talk to them. You have family here too Rosie, don't forget that'
I ignored it, and threw it aside beside the lamp
"What did he say?" Duke asked as I sighed, lying back down, staring at the ceiling
"He's going to talk to them" I mumbled, closing my eyes
"I can take care of myself Rosie, honestly, you don't have to do this" He assured me, his finger trailing lightly along my jaw line
"I know, but I need to" I whispered.
Surprisingly, while my adrenaline pumped, I had somehow managed to fall back to sleep. I wasn't sure if it were Duke's fingers, lulling me into comfort, tracing along my skin, or my mere mental exhaustion.
When I next woke, it was nine in the morning and Duke remained beside me, watching me.
I smiled through fluttering eyes, and spent the next fifteen minutes embraced within him before finally, slowly, getting up.I showered, taking extra time on my fuzzy hair and fury teeth before emerging downstairs.
Today, I had promised myself that I was going to have a good day. I was going to ignore the war that was brewing between the Angels and Vampires and just enjoy Paris like Duke had originally wanted me too.
