Chapter Eighteen - Hope

It was an odd sensation to be sitting opposite the Angel Queen and besides my Vampire boyfriend.
Sure, my life had changed dramatically over the last year or two, but I never in a million years expected to be sitting where I was in that very moment in time.

"How long have you and Rosie been together?" Gloria started, looking in between Duke and I, her main gaze staying on mine.

It was almost as though it caused her a great deal of difficulty just looking at Duke, much I guess to the same degree a mother would to a man who had been dating her younger daughter in secrecy for many years.

"Almost two years" Duke answered, his voice low and velvet

"And I understand that you are part of the clan that discovered Rosie was gifted?" Gloria continued to interrogate

"Yes" Duke answered bluntly

"Well, she is very talented, very unique and most certainly very special. I would hope that you are taking great care of her"

"I am" He nodded "To the very best of my ability"

He most definitely was. Better than anyone else had in my entire life, at least besides my father before he had perished. I wished that he could have met Duke, I wished that he had the opportunity to meet my father in return.

"And I remember hearing news of a Vampire named Dodge who seemed to be causing you a fair deal of grief" Gloria continued, causing me to flinch

How did she know about Dodge?

"How do you know him?" I asked before Duke could answer

"We've had our run ins, he's very elusive" Gloria narrowed her eyes, annoyed

"He tried to kill me numerous times last year" I continued, keeping my gaze on her

"But he hasn't succeeded, so that's a blessing isn't it?" Gloria smiled.

I wondered if anything ever got her temper fuelled, she always seemed to be calm, cool, even when she ended another's life, she never appeared upset or angry.
Even while Duke was around, she still managed to keep her face relaxed and at ease.

"It is" Duke answered for me

"I feel that it is my responsibility to let you know, Dodge is no longer a problem, not to us, and not to you and your kind" She informed us

"What do you mean?" I asked, shaking my head slowly

"Last night after you left, a few of my Angels found him attacking a human. Luckily they were there in time for her life to be spared and he was quickly removed from his life form" She elaborated, my eyes near popping out of my head

"Do you think he knew I was still alive? Was he the one after me?" I asked, turning to face Duke

He shook his head "I had people watching over his thoughts, he had no idea you were still here" Duke answered

"He's right, Dodge was no threat, but unfortunately there is someone else, a new threat to your existence. What I do not know is what this person is, if this person is human, Vampire or Angel" Gloria spoke, attaining mine and Duke's full attention

"If it were Vampire, I would know" Duke told her "I have eyes and ears everywhere"

Gloria seemed to think for a moment "Dear, have you made any enemies at school, home, anywhere else?"

I shook my head "There's no one"

"It has to be an Angel, one that's angry Rosie's still alive, he could be sick of having to deal with her being the centre of attention within your community" Duke continued, his gaze intent on Gloria
