{Chapter Four}
Sam
I SIGHED AS I glanced down at my phone, looking for the time. Lunch was nearly half way over by now and Zane had not shown up. He had said this morning during biology that he would come sit with me so I could teach him how to draw better for his art class.
Maybe he lied. I sighed. I know that it is a stupid reason to get upset, but I was actually looking forward to sitting with him, getting to know him and maybe letting him get to know me. Maybe he would like me and we could be friends.
Him? Your friend? Ha. I shook thoughts like that away as best as I could but it was hard. When you go so long thinking so negatively of yourself and other people, it gets hard to change the habit.
However, I didn't have to think like that for much longer, because I saw Zane's tall figure approach my table from the sea of students crowding the cafeteria. I grinned as he playfully waved at me.
"Hey!" He said once he was in earshot.
"Hey," I said quietly as he sat down across from me. "you ready?"
He nodded, smiling wide. "I drew something last night. Wanna see?" He seemed a little over excited as he went into his back pack, pulling out a small notebook filled with drawing paper. I giggled at his eagerness and nodded.
Zane flipped through the pages and held up a piece of paper so I could see. I had to clench my teeth together in order to keep myself from laughing.
"Um... what is it?" I said slowly, trying my best not to sound rude. It didn't look like it held any sort of shape or form. It looked to be three (or four, I couldn't tell) connected circles and some lines.
If this is how he drew, it was smart for him to come to me for help.
"Um," He grinned sheepishly, laying the pad of paper flat on the table. "well, its supposed to be a rabbit."
I could feel the corners of my mouth twitch, so in an attempt to hide my humor I covered my mouth with my hand, and the action didn't go unnoticed.
"What?" To my relief, he didn't seem at all offended. Instead his smile grew more.
"Um... you have a lot to learn, kid."
"Well," He crossed his arms childishly, sliding the notebook my way. "why don't you try?"
"Okay." I giggled as I grabbed the pad of paper and a pencil, flipping to a new, clean page I started to draw a rabbit the right way.
The two of us sat together in comfortable silence for a few moments after that. Something so simple as just sitting together during lunch was a nice feeling, and something that I wasn't used too.
Declan Marx was a very persuasive guy, and he held a lot of power at this school. He was the sole reason that majority of the students in my class steered clear of me. Why did he have it out for me? I had no idea. Hating me and making my life her Hell had just been his thing since about freshman year. I was so confused and blindsided because I had never really spoken a word to him ever. I eventually just came to terms with the fact that it was just who he is; a power hungry dick head.
I didn't know if he had got to Zane yet, or even if Zane had heard the awful rumors about me that all stemmed from Declan. I decided not to say anything and just enjoy his company. Even if he doesn't want to be friends with me for long, it will be nice for the time being.
