{Chapter Twenty}
Sam
"ARE YOU COLD, sweetheart?" The nurse asked me as she fluffed my pillow before placing it behind my head. "Do you want anything to eat or drink? I could get you some ice chips."
As if on que, my stomach growled. Sheepishly I smiled and nodded. "Yes, please."
She smiled and gently patted me on the shoulder. "It's good to have you back, honey,"
I gave her another smile before she walked out of the room. Mikey was standing up, leaning against the window so he was out of the doctors way. After Mikey had told a random nurse in the hall that I had woken up, I was swarmed by a team of doctors. It was a big wake up call, that's for sure.
"How are you feeling, Sammy?" He said as he walked closer to my bed, hands shoved in his pockets. "Are you feeling alright?"
I smiled weakly. Even though I was fully awake, I still did not have my strength back. I was still very weak and my body was sore and stiff, but I couldn't complain. I was awake. "I feel great. Better than ever."
He snorted a laugh as he sat down on the chair that resided next to my bedside. "I'm so fucking glad that you're awake. I was going crazy."
My smile faded as a big wave of guilt washed over me. I cannot believe what I have put my brother through. I couldn't begin to imagine how awful this past week and a half has been for him. "I know... I'm so sorry, Mikey."
"Hey hey hey," He shushed me as he grabbed my hand and placed it on his cheek. "Don't apologize, alright? I don't want you to feel bad. I'm just... I'm just glad you're okay."
My older brother pulled me in for a tight hug. I was only able to hug him back with one arm, considering my other was tied down my an IV wire. "I love you." I said as I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to keep the tears from flowing. "I love you so much. I'm sorry that I almost left you."
He squeezed me tighter. "I love you too, Sammy Bear. I love you so much."
Being held by Mikey made me really remember why I had to come back. I couldn't leave him, no matter how much I wanted to be with my mom and dad. Mikey needed me. I couldn't have left him, and I can't believe that I even considered it.
A few moments passed of just the two of us holding each other in silence until someone at the door made an 'Ehem' noise. We both looked up to see Dr. Kinney, standing in the doorway with a smile of his face. "Samantha, glad to see you doing well."
Mikey pulled away from me and I smiled. "Thank you."
Dr. Kinney walked into the room, shutting the door behind him. "The nurse told me that you requested some ice chips." He held up a small Styrofoam cup before handing it to me. "You may be a little nauseous if you eat anything to heavy, so I think you should chew on these to curb your hunger for a little while, as well as drink plenty of fluids. You should be able to eat your first solid meal by tomorrow."
Ah, food. I absolutely could not wait to be able to have a decent meal. What would I eat first? Wendy's sounds nice. Oh! Chick-fil-a would be even better. Maybe even McDonalds-
I was snapped out of my thoughts when Dr. Kinney looked down at Mikey. "If all goes well, I believe that Sam will be able to go home within the next few days. I just want to monitor her vitals and make sure her body has recovered from being shut down for that long."
