{Chapter Twelve}
"CLEAN IT UP, Sam." Mrs. Cook said sternly as she grabbed her lunch box from her paint covered desk. She gave me one final glare and stalked out of the large art room. I gave the room a look over. It was covered in paint.
You see, Declan and a few of his followers (I say followers instead of friends because I refuse to believe someone so horrible would actually have them) thought it would be a fun idea to start splattering paint towards each other and all over the room when Mrs. Cook left for a short moment. I didn't pay much attention to it until Mrs. Cook came back. She was furious. Her face turned a deep shade of tomato red and she began screaming. When she asked the class who did it, no one spoke up.
Except for Declen Marks.
The jerk. He told her that I had started it, and that he and his followers joined in. She gave Declan an after school detention. And me? Well, my punishment was to clean the mess that Declan made during today's lunch hour, as well as staying after school to clean the art room everyday for the rest of the week.
I closed my eyes, and clenched my jaw at the thought. Sighing, I put the dingy purple sponge into the soapy water before I got on my hands and knees and began to scrub the paint off the floor. I was so angry. This is going to take forever.
To make things worse, Zane's not even here. He is at home sick with the flu. I was going to go see him after school, maybe bring him some lunch or something nice. But now I am most likely going to be covered in paint.
Just as I was about to curse out loud, the art room door opened. I looked up and saw Declen, grabbing his belongings her forgot on his desk. I saw out of the corner of my eye he was smiling at me. Once I actually made eye contact with him, he chuckled, "On your knees again Sam?"
I gritted my teeth and resisted the urge to throw this wet sponge at his face. No matter how bad I wanted to, it would only make issues between him and I worse.
Could they get any worse?
He must of saw the angry scowl on my face because he sighed, sat down his things and got on his knees next to me.
"Look, I'm sorry Sammy." He spoke softly. "It was just a joke."
I thought about the times I snapped at him in the past. He has been known to have really bad anger problems, and could explode any minute. Besides the occasional push or shove, he has only ever raised his hands at me. However, I wouldn't doubt that he would hit me. Just thinking about it makes me even more scared of him. So instead of snapping at him I muttered, "Its okay. Just a joke, right?" I even gave him a small smile, hoping he would just get his stuff and leave.
He chuckled again. "Right," He placed his left hand in the middle of my back, causing me to jump slightly. "You know, Sam. I know we have had a rough times but I was wondering if we could start over..." His face was closer to mine now. I even felt him breathing on my neck and I cringed. I did not like him being this close to me.
He smiled as he slowly took his right hand and caressed my cheek. "You really are pretty, Sammy..." Then, he began sliding his hand down my back, stopping at my lower back.
What the fuck was he doing?
I needed to get away from him, so I quickly stood and took a step back. "Yeah, well lunch is almost half way over... I heard they're having chicken today. And if you want it warm you should-" He cut off my rambling by quickly placing his hand against my mouth.
"Sam, just be quiet." Declen then took out his phone, and smiled. "Pose for the picture, Sammy." Before I could say anything, Declen pressed his lips to mine, and I heard a click.
What the hell? Did he really just kiss me?!
I gasped, obviously shocked, and I shoved him away while wiping my mouth. "What-"
Glancing down at his phone he smirked. "Damn, this is perfect to use as black mail."
I was in shock. "Declan, what the fuck are you doing?" my voice was louder than I intended. I didn't want the teachers or students out in the hall to hear me, but I couldn't hold back. What the hell was Declan trying to do? "Delete that!"
"Shh, don't be so loud, Sammy." He grinned at me. "No need to worry. This picture is just for me."
"What the hell are you trying to do?"
He looked at me as he put his phone in his pocket. "Look, its no question that you and I have had some bad blood between us, but I think it is time you and I had a talk. Alone."
"Alone? No! I am not going anywhere alone with you-"
"You will if you don't want this picture to blow up on the schools website."
I was silent. I knew Zane would believe me over him if he actually did post this picture, but Declan has a lot of followers who would have no problem lying to back him up... I didn't want anything to potentially ruin how Zane feels about me. Our relationship is still so new.
"Just a small talk." He smiled. "Meet me there tonight, around nine. Cool?" My silence must have answered for me, because as he picked up his bag, he winked at me and said, "Good."
I wanted to cry. Why would he do this? I have honestly never done anything negative to this guy. He has just always been a bully to me since freshman year. And now he has resorted to black mailing me?
I guess that tonight I was going to meet Declan at the park. Maybe once and for all I could solve this little mess between us, and hopefully have him leave me alone forever.
