I let Emily leave and walked back to my apartment. I sat at the dining table alone. I thought that maybe I needed to take a little walk. I walked to the city. I wasn't that far from the big city. I walked into a small café. I seen one of my close friends from Minnesota.
" Kevin I never thought I'd see you again," MacKenzie screeched.
I hugged her she used to be my girlfriend, I never said I didn't get any girlfriends but she was my only one.
"How's life," She said as we sat at a table.
"It's ok you know, my parents might split up how's your life," I said.
" My worst nightmare, my mom died a couple weeks after you left it was a tragedy then, now my sister's addicted to drugs," She said her voice breaking.
" Wow I'm so sorry you know I'm always a phone call away," I said.
"Thanks things are different now it kills me thinking the person my sister is," She said.
I seen Emily walking outside the café. I told MacKenzie goodbye after I got her phone number. I ran out the café I ran after Emily. I yelled her name she walked faster I increased speed until I caught up to her.
"Kevin what do you want I seen you with that girl I know her and she is the worst don't fall for her act bad things happen," Emily warned.
"Emily she's one of my closest friends. Can you come home now I can't eat the rest of that pork steak alone," I said.
Emily laughed at me. We walked back to my apartment. We ate pork steak and talked for a while. She ended up falling asleep in the middle of our conversation I fell asleep holding her in my arms. In the morning I smelt waffles not the toaster ones the homemade fluffy ones grandma used to make.
I put my clothes on and ran to the kitchen. Emily was cooking waffles she was in her little apron her hair was in a messy bun and she was handling everything like a pro. I kissed her cheek.
" What year are we in the 1970's," Emily smiled.
"No cause I don't have my briefcase and a suit and tie," I mentioned.
" Actually, you have both those things did you look at yourself this morning," She giggled.
I looked at myself in the mirror. Emily laughed she put the food on the table. I sat down at the table my fork and knife in hand I was hungry. Emily sat down I was just digging into my waffle when Emily stopped me.
"Get a napkin I don't want you to get your suit dirty," She said.
I tucked a napkin in my shirt and digged in. When I finished I drove to my job interview, the interview was great but there were about 30 other people behind me. My chances weren't slim but they weren't thick either. Emily was cleaning when I got home, I walked over to her and put my hand on her shoulder.
"Kevin, don't touch me get away," She told me.
I took my hand off her shoulder she walked away and went into the room. I walked into the room she looked at me she looked angry. She sat on the bed looking at her phone and didn't talk to me at all.
"Why won't you talk to me?" I asked.
"Well you couldn't tell your fiancé that your ex got you a job interview and she was your ex I mean I need to know these things like why'd she dump you," Emily fussed.
"Babe, I thought we were over this you can't get mad at me for nothing," I told her.
"Don't "Babe" me Kevin I want a break leave now."
