"Oh uh yeah." He said while looking down at the ring and then back up to me.

"Congratulations." I said while giving him a smile.

"Thanks."

There was a complete awkward silence for a moment and then my dad came in the kitchen to get some food. He looked at us both and it almost seemed like he was giving Derek a warning glare.

I escaped from the awkwardness and went into my parents room to find my mother sitting on her bed, reading, most likely pretending, to read a book.

"Mom." I said.

She looks up from the book and gave me an apologetic smile.

"I'm sorry. He did Aunt Jen's patio and it came out great! I thought it would be done before I came back." She said.

I gave her a sigh and sat on the bed next to her.

"It's fine." I said.

"No it's not. I shouldn't have let him back into this house after he-" She stopped mid sentence, not sure if she could talk about it.

"Cheated on me for a year with another girl and then left me for her." I said.

She nods her head while being cautious of what to say next. I laughed a little and realized that I must have been way out of it after the whole break up with him.

"Honestly it's fine. I don't love him anymore. I'm over it. He made a mistake."

"That's the right attitude." She said with a smile.

I rolled my eyes while laughing and getting up to go in my bedroom. I heard my phone ringing so I go see who it was. Harry's face was lighting up my screen and my heart started to race a million times faster.

"Hello." I said when I answered it.

"Uh hey. I heard you left." He said.

"For the weekend."

He breathed a sigh in relief it seemed and my body was feeling warmer with hearing his voice. My mind couldn't do him justice and I wanted to climb through the phone and be with him. I was about to say I love you when I remembered the hate accelerating everyday and how Harry deserves someone better than me.

"I just wanted to make sure you were ok." He said.

"I'm fine."

"Good. That's good. I have to...I have to go."

"Ok bye."

"Bye lo-" He says but then cuts off and hangs up immediately.

He was about to say I love you and I wished he had. I called Ellie to let her know I was all right and we stayed on the phone for a few hours. I told her about Derek and she was angry at my mom but I told her it was fine.

I could tell she was worried for me. Harry and I breaking up and now going home to have Derek be in the house the whole weekend, not too calming. She kept saying I should come back but I said I didn't want to just yet. I hung up with her once Niall was there and I figured they wanted there "alone" time. I was glad they were finally figuring things out and it looked like they would be going public soon.

I heard a knock on my door and my dad came in.

"Sweetie we are going out. We will be back later. Derek is working outside. If you need us then just call me." He said.

"I'll be fine. Thanks."

He walked out and my heart started racing knowing that it was just Derek and I in the house. A few years ago I would have loved this but not anymore.

I walked in the kitchen and decided to make some lunch. I grabbed some ingredients and started to make one of my favorites. Pizza and cookie dough. I laughed at myself for still remembering how to make it.

I heard a door open and then footsteps coming closer to the kitchen. I was putting some sausage on the pizza when Derek stood beside me.

"Pizza and cookie dough. Classic." He said with a smile.

"Classic and delicious." I said with a laugh.

He stole a piece of sausage and I smacked his arm.

"Come on? It was one piece." He said.

I rolled my eyes at him and he took another. I was about to yell at him when he started talking again.

"I remember we made this every Friday night." He said with a small smile.

I thought about it and remembered that he was right. He would always come over or I would go over to his place and make this. Sometimes it ended in food fights but it was always fun.

"Your right. I remember that." I said while laughing at how silly we had been.

"Need help making it?"

I thought about it for a moment and was going to deny but why not? Me and him could be friends at least.

"Sure."

He smiled and then starts getting the ingredients for the cookie dough out.

"Cheese please." I said.

He gets the cheese out and hands it to me. Next thing I knew there was some cheese in my hair and I heard him laughing.

"You did not."

"I did." He said with a big grin.

I took some cheese and threw it at him which caused him to get some more and throw it at me. Eventually both of us were covered in cheese and even some sauce but neither of us cared. We were both sitting on the floor with tears in our eyes from laughing so hard.

"Why did we stop doing this?" He asked while laughing.

I was laughing up until he asked that question because I knew why it had stopped. He looked at me confused for a second but then remembered.

"Right." He said.

I nodded my head a little and got off the floor. He could tell he had ruined the friendship moment and looked mad at himself. I had to hand it to him, he was more mature.

"Brooke." He said.

"Yeah?"

"I'm sorry. Honestly I was such a dick back then. I really never meant to hurt you. I should have never done that to you. You didn't deserve any of that." He said while looking at me, with hope in his eyes.

"It's fine. I forgive you. It was years ago."

"I just wanted to let you know how sorry I am."

"Derek let's just forget it." I said while putting the pizza in the oven.

"Friends?" He asked.

"Friends."

He smiled at the word and the next thing I knew he was giving me one of his big old bear hugs. I smiled a little but continued to hug him. I was glad me and him could be friends again.

"So who is the lucky lady?" I asked, remembering that he was married.

He laughed a little and then looked at the ring but then back at me.

"We are divorcing actually."

"What?" I asked in surprise.

"Yeah. Young married couples don't work out I guess."

"I'm sorry."

"Don't worry about it. We were just young but its over now."

I looked up at him and see that he seemed sort of sad.

"You still love her don't you?" I asked.

"No. Someone else." He says while staring into my eyes.

I was confused as to what he meant but then I saw his head coming in a little closer to mine, as if he was going to kiss me. I was frozen in the moment, not sure of what to do.
