I clenched the bedsheets in agony as I came to. The giant blue hole in my chest was still painful then.
I squirmed in discomfort as the pain flared, then subsided. Then flared... You get the jist.
I wasn't happy.
A doctor dressed in a pristine uniform as white as the teeth on Colgate adverts came in. He smiled sympathetically at me.
"Not good?" He asked, referring to the pain. I writhed in agony at the pain as it flared again.
"I've been better." I said through gritted teeth.
"I'll up your dose of morphine." He said and started to fiddle with one of the many machines I was tied up to. "Your agency is here, by the way."
"Agency?"
"Yeah, they're waiting outside."
"I don't belong to an agency."I said, sighing at the memory of being kicked out by my crush. I mean friend!
The doctor turned to me, looking seriously confused.
"Really? 'Cause I swear they have rapiers."
He moved towards the door. "Do want them to come in?" He asked, his hand resting on the door handle.
"Uh, okay." I said. The doctor nodded and pushed his way out the room. There was some muffled conversation before the doctor returned, closely followed by George and Lockwood. God, you have no idea how good it feels to see them.
"Why are you here?" I scoffed, then chocked on some blood in my throat. Of course, I was still really annoyed with them for kicking me out.
"We had to see if you were okay." Lockwood said quietly.
He seemed to be trying to catch my eye. When he did, though, he kept looking away.
"Well, you can-" My voice drowned out as the door clanged open. "Off!" I finished.
"Well, I think I'm going to leave you to it. Excuse me, you have to be hygienic to enter a hospital."
Flo Bones ignored him and rushed to my bed.
"Carlyle! Are you alright?" She looked genuinely worried. I smiled.
"Of course I am Flo. Thanks." I glared at Lockwood. "Thanks for caring."
"Lockwood," George said frowning. "She doesn't remember."
I stared at him blankly. "Remember what?"
"Luce, do you remember anything that happened in the tunnel?" George asked, coming closer.
I wracked my brains, thinking. Finally, I shook my head.
"All I remember is waiting at the station for Kipps. Why? Did anything important happen in the tunnel?"
In answer, Lockwood closed his eyes and walked out of the room. George, trying to comfort him about something I didn't know of, ran after him.
The talking that followed was quiet, and I couldn't make out much.
But one thing was certain, they were talking about a kiss.
I turned to Flo in bewilderment.
"What did I do?"Authors note~
