Chapter 1: The Beginning

I sit in class, my eyes glued to the clock. Every second is an eternity as I wait for 3:00pm to come around. I exchange glances with May and Kathy, and we all know what each other are thinking. "Just one more minute. One more minute till I'm free of this place." I think excitedly. I mean, Boise is nice and all, but if I have to spend one more day away from the trees I love, my head is going to explode. My mind wandered back to my home in North Idaho.

I jump in my seat as the final bell goes off, releasing all of the college kids one last time. Shouts of joy echoed through the hallways as everyone shoved each other through the halls. Stopping at my locker one last time I grab my bag and the letter from home I always kept around. Running out the door, I see May and Kathy in the parking lot waiting by May's bright red convertible mustang. I wave, and they wave back, motioning for me to hurry up and get over there. I do, and from there we begin our road trip back home.

On the way there is much exited talk about all the things we plan to do that summer. Kate says that the party is already planned for our homecoming at her apartment. May seems overly exited to see Gavin again, and Kate says she wants to see Kyle again, but I know that she has a small crush on Gavin too, and had for a while. But because of the promise, we agreed to let May have Gavin. The promise was made to prevent any broken hearts or fights between us. Best friends forever, ever since grade school. May breaks my train of though, asking me with a smile, "So, are you exited about seeing Mitch?" I shrug a little. Mitch and I had been friends since we were little, and everyone expected us to get married when we got older. He was a really nice kid, but he was kind of a nerd, which was okay. I know that he really liked me, maybe even loved me, but I couldnt bring myself to feel the same way. I know he deserved my affections more than anybody, but.... "Ravyn!" Kate butts into my thoughts, and I turn to look at her, slightly confused. "You are doing that thing again! Stop it!" She yells at me, and I release my bottom lip from in between my teeth. I guess I have this bad habit of chewing on my bottom lip whenever I am thinking. I mumble an apology and sit back, closing my eyes and letting my mind wander.
