Katniss yawns and stretches, as she wakes up from her dreamless sleep.
Peeta smiles, and snuggles up next to Katniss.
"Merry Christmas." He whispers in Katniss's ear.
"Merry Christmas." She whispers back, and then gives him a gentle kiss on the lips.
They lay there, snuggled together, enjoying the moment of peace and happiness.
"Is Haymitch still downstairs, passed out?" Katniss asks.
"No, when you went to bed I woke him up, and made him go back home." Peeta says, answering Katniss's question.
"Okay."
Peeta get's out of the bed, and walks into the bathroom to get a shower.
Katniss lays in the bed for a few more minutes, staring at the ceiling, imagining Prim's face if she had known she was going to be a aunt.
Tears start to form in Katniss's eyes as she remembers the painful image of Prim before the bombs hit.
Katniss closes her eyes tightly, pushing the tears far away.
She pulls the blankets off of her, and gets out of bed.
She walks downstairs, and into the kitchen.
She opens the fridge and see's tons of cookies, cakes and candy.
She smiles, as she imagines the young, and older children smiling as they receive the delicious treats.
Peeta walks up behind Katniss, wraps his arms around her waist, and kisses her cheek.
Katniss smiles widely.
After that Katniss goes up stairs and gets dressed. She leaves her hair in its natural waves.
She walks back downstairs where Peeta is waiting with the treats.
Katniss puts her boots, and coat on, and they walk to the orphanage.
All the younger children run up and greet Katniss and Peeta with hugs.
All the older children welcome Katniss and Peeta with waves and hello's.
"It looks a lot better in here." Katniss says.
"Yeah. They actually have beds, and food, and heat." Peeta says.
The orphanage owner named Layla, greets Katniss and Peeta.
"The children will absolutely love this!" Layla exclaims.
"I hope they will." Peeta smiles.
Katniss's is pulled away by a girl who must only be seven.
"Do you wanna see my room?" The young girl asks with excitement.
"Of course!" Katniss says.
The young girl pulls Katniss into her room. The room is a average sized room, grey walls, old carpeted floors, five twin sized beds, each bed has a grey blanket and a white pillow on it.
The girl runs over to a bed that's against the right wall.
She looks under her bed, and pulls something out.
It's a gold necklace with a old locket attached to the end.
The girl carries it over to Katniss.
"Will you keep this safe for me? I'm scared the other kids are going to steal it, or break it." The girl asks Katniss.
"Are you sure?" Katniss says.
Katniss furrows her eyebrows, and looks at the girl, questioning her.
The girl nods her head yes.
Katniss smiles, and takes the locker from the girl. Katniss goes to open it, but is stopped by the girl.
"Don't open it!" The girl says.
"Oh I'm sorry." Katniss says quickly.
"It's okay."
"What's you'r name sweetie?" Katniss asks.
"Mallory." The girl says.
"I'll keep this safe for you, I promise." Katniss says.
Mallory smiles a toothy smile, and gives Katniss a great big bear hug.
"C'mon lets go get you a treat." Katniss says.
Katniss and Mallory walk into the kitchen, where a line of children wait there turn for a treat.
Katniss stands with Mallory as they wait in the line.
Once they get up there, Peeta smiles and hands Mallory a bag with the goodies in it.
"Thank you!" Mallory says, her voice full of joy and excitement.
After all the children had gotten a bag of goodies, Katniss and Peeta start to leave.
"Merry Christmas!" Peeta and Katniss say.
"Merry Christmas!" All the children and Layla respond.
Katniss and Peeta walk home, but stop when something falls out of Katniss's pocket. Mallory's locket.
Katniss picks up the locket and wipes the snow off of it.
"What is that?" Peeta asks.
"It's one of the orphans locket. She gave it to me to keep safe."
Peeta smiles a little, and nods his head.
Once they get home, they take there shoes and coats off.
Peeta goes into the kitchen to fix some hot chocolate, and Katniss sits on the couch, staring at the small embers in the fireplace.
She pulls out the locket, starts to open it, but stops as she remembers Mallory voice "Don't open it!" Mallory's voice was so urgent. But why?
Katniss puts the locket in a small box that sits on the table.
Peeta walks in with two cups of hot chocolate. He hands one cup to Katniss, it warms her hands quickly.
Peeta places some wood in the fireplace, covering the embers from the fire that was there earlier.
He finds a match and strikes it, throwing it into the fireplace.
He sits on the couch next to Katniss.
She curls up next to him, and falls asleep.
