Just yesterday I was homeless. My boss had fired me, Libby's day care kicked her out, and we were sleeping in a box. Now we are in some big fancy house with some rich people that say it's out of the goodness of there heart. I need to find us a way to get out of here. You can never trust people you don't know.
Opening my eyes I scream, "Who are you!" Climbing out the bed I stand against the wall. I knew these people couldn't be trusted. Who stands over a person that's sleeping by staring at them? "Get away from me." I stutter when I see the knife in his hand.
"Calm down. I'm James Bailey. You met my wife yesterday, Catherine remember?" Should I believe him? He has a knife in his hand.
"Where's my sister?" I ask.
"She's eating the breakfast I just cooked. I promise I'm not trying to hurt you." James says, or so he claims.
"You go first I'll follow." Slowly I walk behind him down the stairs into the kitchen to see Libby talking to the woman from yesterday.
"Hey what was up with the screaming?" She asks as I sit beside Libby.
"Your psycho husband thought it would be a good idea to wake me up with a freaking knife in his hand." Catherine looks at James shocked.
"James what in the world made you think that was a good idea?" Catherine says while fixing my plate. "My husband has gone bonkers. God help me." She puts a plate in front of me smiling.
"Catherine I was in the middle of cooking and you kept yelling at me to wake her up." James then turns to me. "I'm sorry for scaring you Arabella. You don't have to deal with her yelling all the time. Trust me after a while you'll get tired if it too." Catherine nudges him as I nod my head. Wait, after a while? We are not staying here.
"Sissy are we going to stay here now?" Just what I need. Libby is going to get attached to this family and even if I have to drag her out of here screaming she won't talk to me for a while. Trust me she's gone months with out talking to me, and I was fine with that. She did everything I find her to do when I had to watch her. Things are different now though and I can't have her ignoring me now.
"No, after breakfast we are leaving." I don't trust these people.
"That's what me and James want to talk you you about." They both sit down at the table and start eating.
"And that would be?" I ask stabbing my ham harshly then shoving it into my mouth.
"We've talked about it and we want to adopt you." I think they've both gone bonkers.
"You will!" Libby asks excited.
"Yes, we just needed to talk to the both of you about it." They've talked and now I'm done. Standing up I go to the sink and wash my dishes. "Arabella please think about it. We could help Libby, and you can go to Uni." Turning around I stare at them.
"We do just fine on our own thank you." I've always wanted to go to university.
"Please sissy. I like it here. The bed feels a lot better than our old bed and the boxes we use to sleep in." They've turned my own sister against me. "Please?" Libby gets up and hugs me around my legs.
"If I for even one moment feel like we're not safe here Libby and I are leaving." I'm going to regret this. I can feel it in my bones.
"We promise you'll feel safe here now come sit." Libby skips back to her seat while I slowly walk back over.
"So why are the two of you homeless?" James asks.
