I stare at him in disbelief for a minute. This serum could be what gives me my powers back. Not only that, but it can make me feel whole again?
"Where did you find it?" I ask, still in shock.
"He had some sort of lab in his apartment." Emmett explains. "I found this along with the same stuff they injected you with. It was labelled 'anti-serum'." He suddenly looks hesitant. "Amy, I don't actually know if this will work. It could hurt you."
I just sit there for another minute, speechless. I'm finding it difficult to absorb everything he's saying. Then, it finally sets in. I can have my powers back if this works. I suddenly pull Emmett into a hug, which is unusual for me since I don't like physical affection.
"Thank you." I whisper. He chuckles.
"You don't even know if it works or not." He says, hugging me back. I release him.
"No matter what, you still tried. That means a lot." I smile.
"You don't have to do it." I look at him, confused, when he says this. "What if it hurts you?"
"I'm sorry Emmett," I reply. "But if there's even a chance that I can get me powers back, I have to take it." I gently take the syringe from his hands and inject myself with the serum in the arm. I feel a pain similar to what I felt when I first lost my powers and I scream. The world goes black for a minute. Then I'm aware of Emmett frantically calling my name.
"Amy?!" he says, his voice filled with panic. "Amy, can you hear me?" I open my eyes and see Emmett above me, his eyes wide. Seeing me awake, he wraps me in a tight hug. "Shit, Amy, don't scare me like that."
"Aren't you supposed to be resting?" I joke, but he doesn't laugh. Instead, his face is still filled with concern.
"Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, Emmett." I try to convince him, and get up unsteadily. He wraps his arm around my waist to keep me steady, and I blush, not expecting this much physical contact. He releases me when he sees that I can stand on my own.
"Did it work?" he asks.
"Let me check." I lift my hands in front of my face and concentrate. Finally, two bright balls of fire form, and I gasp. I smile wide, my eyes filling with tears for the second time today. "It worked." I say. "Emmett, it worked!" I can't help but throw my arms around his neck. "Thank you." He laughs and wraps his arms around my waist.
"I'm so glad it worked." I can hear his smile in his voice. Finally, I release him.
"I'll be right back." I go into my room and grab a bag in the back of my closet. Inside is something I haven't touched in two weeks- my super suit. I quickly put it on and run back out of my room. Emmett looks at me and grins.
"Looking good." He winks, and I roll my eyes. I open my apartment door, go outside and do the one thing I've missed the most. I fly.
Flying makes me feel almost invincible. When I'm in the air it feels like nothing can get to me. It's one of the few things that makes me feel at peace. I fly over a lake, just low enough so that I can touch the water. Finally, after flying around the city for a couple of minutes, I land on the roof of my apartment building. Grinning, I lift my hands in front of my face. Orange sparks come from them. I hear somebody land next to me and I look and see Emmett. He smiles at me.
"I missed that." I say. "This is where I used to come to think."
"It's a nice spot." he replies. "The view's nice." I nod.
"I have my powers back." I just can't get over it. "I can help people again. I'm not completely useless anymore."
"You never were." Emmett says. I look over at him and grin. I throw my arms around his neck again, surprising myself and him. This is the third hug I've given him today, which is a new record for me probably. He hugs me back, and then pushes me back a little so that he can look at my face. His arms are still on my waist. My heart is pounding and I'm suddenly nervous. His hand brushes a strand of hair out of my face. He strokes my cheek tenderly and suddenly, his lips are on mine.
