Emmett POV

After Amy and I get into our fight, Connor and I just stand here, not knowing what to do.  Obviously, we should follow her, but I think she needs her space right now.  Besides, maybe she's right.  Maybe I have made her life harder since I met her.  I sigh, and look at Connor.

"Are you gonna play the protective brother and kick my ass now?" I joke.  He shakes his head.

"You're right.  She's just being difficult." he says.  "I don't know her that well, but she seems like a stubborn type of person." I laugh.

"You have no idea."  Finally, we start to follow her, but as we turn the corner we come face to face with Alex and two men who looked like the same guys who attacked Amy and I on the roof.

"Shit." Connor says.   The two men raise their guns at us.

"Where is she?"  Alex asks.  So he hasn't caught her yet.  She might make it out of this, even if we don't.

"She got away."  Connor lies.  "She's safe, away from you."  I make a mental note to thank him for that later.  Alex shakes his head.

"Liar."  He says.  "You wouldn't be able to get her to do that.  She would never leave you here.  So tell me where she is."

"Nope." I say, popping the 'p'.   "Why on Earth would I do that?"

"I'll shoot you."  I just laugh.

"That's all you got?"  I say.  "You're gonna have to be more persuasive than that."

"You're just as stubborn as her."  He says.  "So if I were Amy, and I were stuck in a secret facility, where would I go?"  He taps his finger against his chin thoughtfully, and I resist the urge to punch the smirk right off his face.  His face brightens as if he's thought of something.  "Of course.  She would want to keep us from harming anybody else.  Come on.  She's at the lab."  He says the last part to the men pointing the guns at us.  "Take them."  He nods his head towards Connor and I and we're being shoved down the hallway where we had last seen Amy heading.  When we get closer to the lab, I hear her scream, and I swear, I feel my heart stop for a second.  I struggle to break free of the man restraining me to run towards the sound but it's no use.

"Dammit!" I hear her say, and I let out a sigh of relief.  We're shoved into the lab and she's standing in the middle of it, her back to us.

"Having some trouble, sweetheart?"  Alex says, and she spins around.  When she sees us, her eyes widen.  "Did you know that insanity is repeating something and expecting a different result?  So, by definition, you're becoming insane."

"I think you're the insane one, Alex."  she says.  She has a look of defiance on her face and I'm proud of her.  She's slowly getting the courage to stick up to him after all the things he's done to her.   "All of your attempts to get me have failed, so why not just let us go and call it a day?  Make it easier on yourself?"

"Really?  Because last time I checked, I'm the one who brought you here in the first place."  The look on her face changes to a pleading one when she realizes defiance isn't working.

"Please, you have me, but they have nothing to do with this.  Just let them go."  Of course she would try this.  Sometimes, I hate how willing she is to sacrifice herself.

"But that would be a lot less fun though."  I roll my eyes at his sadistic comment.

"I'll do whatever you want, please."

"I think you'll do whatever I want either way."  I realize what he's implying and my eyes widen.

"No." I growl.  "Amy!"  I try to get away from the man restraining me again, but I'm still unsuccessful.  Amy is backing away slowing in fear.  She puts her hands in front of her face, palms out, with concentration evident on her face.  I can tell she's trying to use her powers on him, but they're not working.  It's probably because of how cold this place is.  Alex picks up a syringe filled with a blue liquid from one of lab tables and walks threateningly towards her. Suddenly, I hear a thud behind me and the hands restraining me are gone.  I look behind me and see that the men who had been holding Connor and me are a few feet away, unconscious.  Connor's smirking, so I figure he had done it somehow with his powers.  I don't even hesitate when I rush forward and tackle Alex to the ground putting my hands around his neck.

I know that, before, Amy didn't want me to kill him.  But right now all I can think of is all of the times that he hurt her.  I read his mind and see him pushing her to the ground, another time when he slapped hurt.  I see the time when he tried to kill her, but instead she almost killed him.  Finally, I see him torturing Amy earlier today and my hands around his neck tighten.

"I let you live." I say to him as his face is becoming red.  "I told you that you would wish that I killed you if you hurt her again.  I never break my promises."  I release my hold on his neck and punch his face, hard.  When I found Amy today, she looked close to death.  He did this to her, and I can't hold myself back.  I grab his arm and twist.  There's a sickening crack and I'm ashamed of the pleasure I feel from it.

"Emmett!" I hear Amy scream.  At first, I think that she's trying to get me to stop.  But then, I feel a sharp pain in my arm.  I look down.  Alex has stabbed me with the syringe.  The last thing I see before I black out is a look of horror on Amy's face.
