Kaydence's Christmas gift in the MM.
It's December and we're on Christmas break. Tai's shoulder has been healing pretty well and he's even able to use it. He still has trouble here and there and has to go to physical therapy three times a week. Since we're on break for almost a month, I came home to be with my family. Emory and Tai also went home. I talk to both of them every day. Kaylin is home for break too, but she's been spending all her time with her friends. I'm a little jealous because I'm her sister and considering we go to school in different states, you'd think she'd want to spend time with me.
I am sitting in my room bored with nothing to do and I decide to call Tai. He answers on the third ring.
"Hello?" he doesn't sound too happy.
"Hey, how are you?"
"I'm alright, wassup witchu?"
"Nothing, at home. Bored. What are you doing?"
"Sittin' in this dorm. I'm the only one on campus."
"Campus? I thought you went home. Why are you still at school?"
"My momma was supposed to get me a plane ticket so I could fly home but her job been cuttin' hours so she couldn't get it again. I wish she'da told me before so I could work some extra hours and get it myself."
"Oh wow, I'm sorry to hear that. I know you were looking forward to going home to spend time with your family."
"Yeah, this some bullshit."
It's silent for a moment and I get an idea.
"Hey, let me call you right back," I stand up off my bed.
"Okay."
I hang up and walk downstairs to the kitchen where my mom is cooking. Christmas is in a few days and she's preparing for Christmas dinner. I stand there for a minute watching her until she realizes I'm in the kitchen.
"You need something?" she asks stirring something in a bowl.
"Yeah, I wanted to ask, can I have a friend over for dinner on Christmas?" I smile really big.
"And who is this friend?" she raises her eyebrow.
"His name is Tai. He's a friend from school."
"And might I ask why Tai isn't having dinner with his own family?"
"His mom couldn't afford to get him a ticket to fly home so he's stuck at school."
"Oh, well I suppose that's fine. We have plenty."
"Great! Thanks!"
I run back upstairs and call Tai back.
"Hello?"
"Hey, so I just talked to my momma and she said you can come over for dinner on Christmas if you want."
"Oh foreal? Cool. I was hopin' I wouldn't hav'ta eat out. And I got you somethin', so I don't have to wait till you come back school to give it to you."
"You got me something?" I'm a little surprised.
"Of course I did."
I realize that I have no gift for him and I have no idea what to get him.
