Hey all! Here's the next chapter for you. We're beginning the time jump again. The date is March 20th, 1949. This would be towards the end of the filming for the movie. I'm thinking one more chapter for My Friend Irma after this and then the REAL fun can begin. So, as a refresher, Dean would be 31, Sandy would be 29, and Jerry would have turned 23 four days prior. Enjoy...this will mostly be Sandy and Dean fluff, and a little bit of Hal Wallis being a conniving businessman with dollar signs where his heart should be, and of course antics from Jerry and George. A side note; I watched the Matt Helm films for the millionth time yesterday, and all I can say is those films are a nice reminder that Dean is a STUD!!! That being said, I am including a warning that there will be a few innuendos in here because I really couldn't help myself. So you are warned. Alright, enough rambling :). Enjoy!
-OBG98"And cut!" George yelled out, shooting a glare at a rather obnoxious extra who seemed to be wanting more than her fair share of the limelight on the silver screen. She has been staring straight into the camera, trying to position herself in a flattering pose as the camera panned over her general vicinity. She ended up blocking Dean, causing another take to end up a bust.
"Would she give it a rest already?" John Lund, who was playing Al, whispered to Sandy humorously. Sandy stifled a giggle and looked over at the lady, watching as she adopted an indignant expression when George stalked over to her, shaking his head in irritation.
"Well, I guess that's ONE way to get yourself noticed by a director in Hollywood," Sandy joked, getting a laugh from John. Marie Wilson walked over to the two of them, with Jerry and Don DeFore not too far behind her. Only Dean stayed put, rolling his eyes as George continued to lecture the extra.
"We may have some competition in casting now," Don quipped, shaking his head with barely concealed amusement. He was a sweet man with a round face, twinkling eyes, and a broad smile. He was the most soft spoken of group, and preferred to spend his time reading in his dressing room than going out and getting drinks with the cast and crew after a long day at the studio. However, he had a biting wit and when given the opportunity he could have everyone in stitches with his quick one liners.
"Hey Sandy, don't look now, but it looks like top billing isn't the only thing she's after," Marie muttered to her friend, gesturing towards the extra. Sandy turned to see the woman blatantly flirting with Dean, twirling her hair around her fingers, smiling at him broadly, and batting her eyelashes. Sandy could only laugh, knowing that this woman would be getting absolutely nowhere with him. Dean was polite as he could be, shooting her a strained smile as she continued to talk to him, looking around frantically for an escape. George had moved on from the extra, talking to one of his crew members about the lighting.
"Oh Dino you are TOO CUTE!" The woman shrieked, cackling with laughter over something Dean said. She clamped onto his arm, her fingernails digging into his jacket. Dean raised his eyebrows in surprise and annoyance, trying to shake his arm loose.
"Dino?" Jerry muttered incredulously, glancing over at Sandy. Sandy just laughed again, slightly impressed with the woman's boldness.
"Alright, I'd better go rescue him," Sandy chuckled. She sauntered her way over towards the extra, who was still completely engrossed with Dean. Dean shot Sandy a grateful look as she walked towards him, breaking his arm away from the extra and quickly wrapping it around Sandy's waist. The woman's expression darkened slightly upon Sandy's arrival, but quickly masked it when Sandy looked straight at her.
"Dean honey...would you mind introducing us?" Sandy asked sweetly, emphasizing the word 'honey' while looking pointedly at the other woman.
"The name is Penelope Schwartz. It's a pleasure Ms. Lawrence," the woman answered haughtily, quickly interrupting Dean as he began to answer. Sandy again fought back laughter as Penelope tossed her hair over her shoulder vainly, glancing at Dean to see if he was paying attention to her.
