The scar on Kendall's back was incredible, reaching from her hips to the middle of her back. It was bright red because of how recent the crash was.
I run my finger along it, remembering the phone call with Kamron on the day of the crash. Renewed dread fills my body, finding out that Kendall had been involved in that horrid crash was the worst day of my life.
"Linc, are you okay?" Kendall's voice snaps me out of my trance, I look down at her, she's laying on her stomach so that I can massage her spine.
"Yeah yeah, I'm good! Sorry.." I started again, rubbing along her scar tenderly. She stiffens, and then relaxes over and over again. We worked for an hour today, trying to get feeling back in her legs. No luck today, but I'm never going to give up. I would never give up on her, never.
I look at Kendall, she's grinding her teeth to keep quiet, "Ken, am I hurting you?"
Kendall's eyes snapped open, she looks at me through her peripheral vision. "No, I'm okay. I promis-"  She gasps as I push on her hips, then opens hers eyes slowly. " Lincoln?"
I raise my hands lacing them  and holding them behind my head, " Kendall, you felt that?" My mouth gapes, amazed. "You really felt that?"
Kendall nods, a small smile spreads across her lips.
I couldn't believe it, the massage was working. She could feel.
"We should be done for today, we have done a lot" I brush my hand through Kendall's hair, she turns over onto her back wincing at the pain. Then she pushes herself up shakily, she looks at me through determined eyes.
" I can feel in my back Lincoln, it's working" her honey smooth voice makes me smile warmly inviting in her cheerful mood. I love the way her nose crinkles when she grins, it reminds me of the little girl that is buried deep down inside of her.
" I should probably get started on a lesson today." Kendall rolls her eyes, and heaves herself off the ground trying to reach the seat of the wheel chair. I loop my arms through hers and help her up, she smiles at me. "Thanks."
I nod, and wipe my hands off on my pants unconsciously. "Do you want help with the lesson?"
She thinks for a moment, then nods, "Yeah, I could use some help I guess. Could you hand me my lap top? It's on my desk."
With out hesitating I turn towards the desk and pick up the silver lap top, handing it to her softly. She opens its and clicks through her pages until she reaches her paper.
"Okay, so I have to write an argument essay on if school dress code is okay or not. What do you think?"
I tap my chin, pondering her words, "Dress code is fine in my mind, I see these girls dressing as if they are at the beach, it distracts all these boys. It makes it hard for us to concentrate, and-"
" Wo, wo... Hold up!" Kendall throughs up her hand, halting my words. She has a confused, irritated look etched on her face.
I smirk, knowing  I have her right where I want her. I have heard rumors of Kendall having strong opinions about this. I just wanted to hear it for myself. "What? Did I say something you disagree with?"
"Umm yeah actually, if the way girls dress distracts boys from learning then they have bigger issues. Girls don't dress or look they way they do for anyone but themselves, all the makeup or fancy clothes you see a girl wears is for her. Not anyone else, and if you can't pay more attention to your school work just because of the way a girl dresses then you need to remove yourself from the situation." She folds her arms across her body in an attempt to look angry.
I raise my hands and clap, smiling wildly at her. For the first since I had met Kendall she has shown me her how strong of beliefs she has. She had opened up to me before, but never like this. Her head strong attitude took over her mind and she let go.
"Wow, Ken you're so attractive to me."
