All through the journey back, Jackson kept his hands in his pocket, silent but unable to take his eyes off you.

Every once in awhile, you'd turn to look at him and he would pretend to look somewhere else. You decide to break the silence.

"Hey, erm, thanks for... ... Awhile back. " you mumbled, referring to him whisking you away from the group of bullies.

He smiled shyly, reaching to rub the back of his neck, "Oh, it's nothing..." Jackson couldn't hide the contentment in his face from showing, but found nothing else to add.

Again, the awkward moment filled the air.

Just then a bicycle came from behind at an alarming speed, ringing it's bell when it came awfully close.

"WATCH OUT!" he grabbed your wrist in an instant, jerking you strongly with his natural strength towards his body, as he swept you aside and into a tight embrace.

Not again?!

Your eyes squeezed shut as you clutched on tightly to the folds of his jacket, having it all happen within the blink of an eye.

This time, it felt different. For some reason it seemed a little.... more natural? Your arms had subconsciously found their way to his waist, and your head was comfortably nuzzled in the crook of his neck. The warmth of his body was apparent, probably from the walk, and it was a strange feeling you didn't want to break away from.

"OHMYGAWD THAT DUDE IS SO GONNA CRASH HIS BRAINS!" he shouted animatedly, raising an arm in annoyance. After he got over the angst of that moment, he looked down only to see your eyes tightly shut, holding on to his body. Jackson couldn't help but smile when he saw the way you trusted him enough to rely on him now. As much as he didn't want you to be in harm's way, he wished you would always cling onto him like how you were now.

"Hey babe, don't worry, you're safe now." He cooed into your ear gently, while admiring the way your nose was crinkled in a frown. Instinctively he stroked your hair, for the second time today, and patted the back of your head.

Your eyes sprang open, darting around before deciding to move. But unlike before, you found yourself holding on to him, this time, a warm hand circling your back. It was Jackson's.

You try to resist the firm hold on your back gently and it was met with an equal resistance.

Just what was this?

You looked up in the proximity of his breath, only to meet with his eager eyes that were waiting.

At that moment, you could feel the world whirl away and you were officially lost in the universe of his intense gaze that even if the earth shook, you would hear nothing.

"I never thought I would say this, but you're the first girl I've ever met and hugged twice in a day." he grinned, saying it in a romantically cheesy way.

Before you could feel embarrassed, an automatic response rolled off your tongue, "I know."

What?! How would I know that?

"You do??" His eyes grew wide with surprise and amusement to your reply. You realised his teeth were white and shiny, a neat alignment like a dental ad, you would be lying if you said you weren't attracted to his smile.

You bit your lip down before your auto-response could think of more nonsense.

He didn't seem to be loosening his arm's hold on you and it felt like forever as you grew accustomed to the comfort of his warm and cosy touch.

"You're a hugger huh?" he pressed his lips into a closed smile, and tightened his arm around your waist gradually. "Me too." he whispered, while lightly leaning his chin on the top of your head, nudging you to rest on his shoulders.

At that moment, your eyes closed and your body turned jelly as you let down your guard totally, relaxing into his arms that felt like a security blanket over you. You forgot what you were doing and where you were heading, it was just THE MOMENT OF PURE NOTHINGNESS.

After what seemed like eternity, you let out a light smile and he felt you move. He slid his arms off your back, as you let go of the folds of his jacket. The physical bond you shared with him was almost magical, it needed no words, and it made your heart race with mad excitement.

Was he going to ask you to be his girlfriend on the first day of meeting? That was kinda absurd. But hey, the attraction was mutual and it was darn right obvious.

"Let's erm.... get going?" you chuckled shyly, looking around the pavement.

"Yeah! Yeah, of course!" he formed a crook with his elbow, inching it out to you as a gentlemanly gesture.

It was the sweetest thing you had encountered but you had a good feeling about him this time, so you slipped your hand through it, and walked back.

He started telling you more about the school, the people you met, and the people who lived near you.

Soon, you reached your door.

"Thanks Jackson." You said as you reluctantly slipped your arm off his.

"No worries. Hey, why don't you give me your number? We can walk tomorrow too." He asked, taking out his phone from his pocket.

"Oh, my brother drives me." You replied, and mentally punched yourself for saying that. "Uh, but he could drive you too!" you added quickly.

"Nah, that's alright then... " he smiled politely, "but you could still give me your number."

You both laughed at the silliness and exchanged numbers at the front porch of your house.

As you saved your name in his, and returned him his phone, he turned yours off and returned it instead.

"Alright then, see you tomorrow babe!" With a wink, he turned and left cooly, stuffing his hands in his pocket and sauntered off.

Wondering what he did, you turned on your phone again, and waited as you went into your house.

You scrolled a 'J' but couldn't find his entry, you tried 'W' knowing his surname was Wang, but to no avail.

Then a message arrived:

- Babe : "Miss me already?"

You let out a laugh of disbelief, 'Babe?' What nerve he's got to save his number under a name like that.

You reply quickly:

- "Nope"

As soon as it was sent, the next message followed.

- Babe : "But I do. Open up."

You sprang up from the stool you were sitting on and ran to the door, flinging it open.

There stood Jackson, waiting right at the same spot you left him at.

He walked back?

"I thought you left?" You asked, sincerely surprised to see him back again.

"Well yea, I did, and then something told me I should turn back." He began to take a few slow steps to the front of your door where you were.

Oh, no, this can't be. No, he's not going to tell me he likes me, is he?

You stood frozen in place, holding the handle of your front door, eyes fixed on Jackson.

When he was close enough, he lowered his tone and voice, leaning closer to the side of your face, and said, "May I... borrow your washroom please, I forgot my keys."
