Sam's POV

We just got out of Route 1. It took us about a day to get here, man good thing we packed up some sleeping bags and blankets with us. Or else we would've had to sleep somewhere else! Nobody really caught anymore pokèmon but we did train a little. In fact, my Bulbasaur learned a new move. It's called Leech Seed. "Guys, look! Viridian City just right there!" Grian cried as we looked ahead of us, and there it was!

"Alright! Hopefully the first gym is there so we could get our first badge!" I said while I took a quick look around. Things seemed pretty big in the city. "First we should look for the gym to see where it is for tomorrow, and then go to the Pokèmon center to get a room." Taurtis recommended.

"Then for the rest of the day we can train our Pokemon right?" Yuki added. We nodded in agreement, would go look for the gym and then go to get a room. Sounds like a good day to me. It's almost sunset anyways, so even if we do get to go outside, it would be dark. But if we move quick enough we could pull off a short battle between one another.

"Uh... Sam, come here I need to ask you something." Yuki asked. We stayed fairly behind Taurtis and Grian, what could this be about? "Sure, what's in your mind?"

"Um... Well... Could you maybe help me train?... Like just us?" She asked rather shyly. I had a weird feeling about this, but considering she's my friend I figured why not. What's the harm in helping a friend out? "Sure, that could work. What do you want to focus on?" I asked her. She shrugged her shoulders. "Attacking I guess..." She said while I nodded.

"Alright, I don't know much but I'll teach you what I know." I told her while we caught up with the group. She smiled and then I noticed a some red on her cheek. I decided not to call it out, and dropped it.

Sometime later...

We were close to the gym, luckily someone was kind enough to give us directions to the place. They did give us a skeptical look when we told her we were new trainers. She did warn us the gym was going to be VERY tough. But I believe we can do it. "Are you guys excited for the first gym battle?" I questioned them while they nodded. "I've decided I'm not going to compete for gym badges, I only want to become good enough to be gym leader!" Yuki said while we walked to the front of the gym.

"Wow, let's take a quick picture of it." I said while taking out my pokègear and then snapped a pic of it. Usually people put it on their wrists, but I don't really like doing that. The pokègear was scanning it and it got some results. Maybe it could give us some information about the gym leader and what type of Pokemon they use and possibly what levels.

"Scanners indicate that this gym is suggested for people at least with an average level of 40." The pokègear said while I looked at the info page with curiosity. "Level 40? For the first gym? Man, they said it was going to be tough but I knew it could be this tough." Grian said while scratching the back of his head. I looked at the building one more time and noticed a number on the door. The number was labeled '8' so this must be the 8th gym? Weird. "Hey guys, I think this is the eighth gym, not the first." I informed them.

"That must be why the lady gave us a look!" Yuki said while I nodded. Taurtis looked inside and then tried to open the door. He wasn't successful. "What's wrong? You can't get it open?" Grian asked as he tried to help. "It's locked, but I thought gyms were almost always open. Well of course after their closing time is the only time they're really closed..." Taurtis said while looking through the glass.

"Any luck seeing what's inside?" Yuki asked. He shook his head while sighing. "Did the pokègear show who the gym leader is?" Grian asked me. I checked the gear. I scrolled downward and then upward. But I didn't get an exact name. "Look, all that comes up are these weird question marks." I said while showing them. "I guess this gym doesn't have a leader then, let's go ask someone else then." Yuki said while she looked around for someone.

"Can we do that after we eat? I'm really hungry, we haven't eaten for a few hours!" Taurtis complained while we chuckled. "Taurtis, we ate like three hours ago!" Grian reminded him. "But I want more!" Taurtis said while he began to walk to a Pokemon center, which was pretty close by. "Alright, let's just go follow him." I said while the others agreed to follow Taurtis... I guess our gym battle will have to wait another day.

A few minutes later...

After we got a room, we agreed that I would share with Taurtis and Yuki would share with Grian. Taurtis, being hungry, asked the nurse if there was any room service. Of course, there was so he was happy. Taurtis ran ahead of me to get to the room, so I had to quickly catch up with him before he only orders food for him. I said my goodbyes to Yuki and Grian, I did feel slightly jealous for some reason. I have no idea as to why. I got kind of upset when Taurtis said he called dibs on me.

So I entered our room and he was already at the phone. "10 minutes? Great! Thank you!" He said while hanging up the phone. "Did you order any for me?" I asked with hope. "Oooh, I forgot... Sorry Sam, should've kept up with me." He said while laughing. I sighed and then looked out the window. "Don't blame me! It's just you're to slow! (SANIC)" He teased. I noticed a little battle arena outside of the center. There was two trainers already battling. There's was a guy with a Charmander.

The Charmander looked very mischievous and cocky. Just like the trainer. But the trainer looked very familiar. I think it was that one guy I bumped into in the beginning of my journey. He must've gotten the last Pokèmon from Professor Okami. "Hey Taurtis there's a small battle area out here, maybe we could battle teach other tomorrow?" I told him. He looked out side and saw the Charmander use ember on his opponent's Pokemon, Pidgey. The Pidgey tried to escape the flames by flying away but eventually it failed and it was knocked out.

"Pathetic." I heard the boy with the lizard Pokemon say while they both cross their arms in disappointment in unison. "I thought you were going to be a real challenge, shame I had to end you so quickly." The other trainer nervously returned his fainted bird Pokemon. He got out some pokèdollars and paid off the very cocky guy. The other trainer left without saying a word, hanging his head in shame. "Anyone else want to battle me?" The guy asked everyone in the crowd.

"Dude, you should totally go against him!" Taurtis said while I sweatdropped. "Taurtis, you think if my Bulbasaur could take on a Charmander then you obviously didn't learn anything from Pokemon school..." I told him while he chuckled. "Right, your moves would DESTROY his Pokemon... Hehe... Right?" He asked. I sighed and then shook my head. "Nope, well what do I have to lose? I guess I can give it a try." I said while opening the window.

"HEY BUDDY! I WANNA FIGHT YOU!" I shouted. He turned to me and then smirked while he said. "Come here and battle me then, hopefully you're not as much of a disappointing as the other trainers here." I nodded and closed the window as I began to walk out. "Wish me luck!" I told Taurtis as I ran out through the hallway. I got out Bulbasaur's pokèball and then looked at it. "Me and you can do this..." I thought to myself with determination.

I ran into the field and then he chucked. "Good. You're here." He said while I clenched my pokèball. "Since you're the challenger, you get the first hit." He said while I looked at the ball again. I was hesitant. Should I really fight a fire type with a grass type?... "Well?! What are you waiting for?" He asked. I looked back up and the glared him in the eye while I got ready to call out my partner for this battle. I tossed it into the air with confidence while I said... "Alright, Bulbasaur, I choose... You!"
