Newt's pov
She was a mess of something flammable, her skin slick with gasoline and I was just an aerosol can, adding fuel to her fire.
She was made up of the stars. Her hands constellations and her eyes sparkling with tiny galaxies.
But she wasn't just natural; she was a city. Her fingers were street lamps and her lips were skyscrapers and bridges and oh God, I was fascinated by her.
Esme was a beauty to bestow and every time I looked at her, I marvelled.
She was beautiful, oh so beautiful. And dangerous. And risqué. And I loved it.
I didn't know anything about her and it terrified me; terrified me and astounded me and left me wondering where I was before this girl came and swept in to class with her blonde waves and blue eyes.
Ah yes, before Esme was Y/n. I didn't know where I stood with her and I'd heard rumours that she was going out with Chase tonight so I doubt she'd mind of I worked on the project with Esme.
But I banished all thoughts of Y/n and focused solely on the girl beside me.
The way the late afternoon sun wove itself into her hair; the way her delicate fingers slid over the steering wheel; the way her eyes glinted like the Mediterranean sea as she concentrated on the road.
She glanced at me but I flitted my eyes away, fidgeting in the leather seat.
"You okay?" oh, how she sounded like silk.
"Yeah. Yeah I'm fine." my voice sounded strange, alien almost.
"So what's the deal with that girl that sits behind us?" he eyes flitted to mine once more, "you two a thing?"
"Uh, ahem, yeah kind of I mean uh-"
"You know she's going out with Chase tonight, right?" She interrupted, taking a sharp turn left and pulling into a wide driveway.
I didn't reply to her question, instead asking one of my own: "how do you pay for a house like this?"
"Lots of shady stuff happened in the scorch, Newt. I doubt you'd understand." she killed the engine and opened her door.
I snorted incredulously and hopped out, going 'round the car to meet her. Together we walked up her drive; I waited patiently on the doorstep as she graciously slid the key into the lock. Everything about her was precise and calculated.
She was something on a different level.

Your pov
The bar was dark, lit only by the burning of cigarettes and a few randomly scattered ceiling lights. Tendrils of smoke hovered in the air, so thick they were almost tangible.
You gripped Chase's hand tighter and he stroked his thumb over your knuckles.
You weaved through the tables sticking close behind Chase. You were used to being the only female surrounded by males and it didn't faze you, but the way some of the men were eyeing you made you queazy.
If hearts had wings yours would surely be beating out of your chest.
Chase led you to the bar and addressed the bartender.
"Two pool cues please Kev."
"Sure thing," he reached behind him and plucked two cues from the wall, laying them on the bar before speaking again, "and who's this pretty little thing?"
Chase's jaw clenched. "This is Y/n."
The bartender, Kev as Chase called him, must have sensed your unease and offered a lopsided grin.
"It's okay darlin', we don't bite."
A young boy, maybe a couple years older than you, pressed himself against your back, his lips brushing on your neck, "speak for yourself." Even though his hands were warm, you shivered as he let his fingers run up and down your arms.
"Lay off, Alex." Chase glared at the boy and pushed him away; Alex simply grinned and winked at you before strutting back to his table.
He looked like a lion who had just killed a gazelle.
