Lyra

I walk into my father's study, he is seated at his desk, looking worried.

"You sent for me Father" I say

"Yes, Lyra I want you to join if they decide to destroy the Ring at the meeting tomorrow morning" He says

"So you wish me to go to the meeting then?" I ask

"Yes, but I also want you to promise me that you will be careful on this quest if you go" Father says

"Of course Father, I always am" I say

He stands and comes and hugs me tightly to him and kisses my forehead.

"I love you Lyra" He says

"I love you too Father" I say and kiss his cheek and leave.

Next Morning

The following morning, at the Council of Elrond. Gandalf and Frodo along with a congregation of Men, Elves and Dwarves sit in a semi-circle around a stone pedestal.I sit next to Gandalf and a blond elf, I look around the room, I'm the only female here, just lovely.

"Strangers from distant lands, friends of old. You have been summoned here to answer the threat of Mordor." Elrond says "Middle-Earth stands upon the brink of destruction. None can escape it. You will unite or you will fall."

"Each race is bound to this fate — this one doom." Elrond says gesturing to the pedestal "Bring forth the Ring, Frodo."

Frodo rises and lays the Ring on the pedestal.

"So it is true..." Boromir says

Frodo returns to his seat beside Gandalf. He seems relieved. The members of the Council stare at the Ring, mesmerized by it. It appears to start whispering to each of them in turn. Each person hears it differently. I ignore the Rings whispers.

"The Doom of Men." Someone says

Boromir rises to address the Council "In a dream, I saw the eastern sky grow dark. But in the West a pale light lingered. A voice was crying: 'Your doom is near at hand.'" Boromir says He approaches the Ring on the plinth. "Isildur's Bane is found."

Boromir reaches out towards the Ring. Gandalf and Elrond exchange concerned looks. Boromir's fingers hover above the Ring.

"Isildur's Bane." He says

Elrond leaps up.

"Boromir!" Elrond says

Gandalf stands and begins to chant in the Black Speech. The ring echoes the harsh words. Thunder crackles as the sky darkens. The Council stare around them in fear and confusion.

"Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk agh burzum-ishi krimpatul." Gandalf says

People resume their seats, horrified, Boromir amongst them.

"Never before has any voice uttered the words of that tongue here in Imladris!" Elrond says

"I do not ask your pardon, Master Elrond, for the Black Speech of Mordor may yet be heard in every corner of the West!" Gandalf says his voice still raspy from before "The Ring is altogether evil!"
