Unwanted Gifts

Chapter 2

"You excited to get you gift?" Patrick asked.
"Well, more nervouscited..."
"Nervouscited? What the heck is that?" He laughed.
"It's where you wanna jump up and down and shout yay me! But you also wanna curl up in a ball and hide." I replied, giggling as I finished.
"Whatever you dork," He chuckled," what do you think you're going to get?"
"Maybe I'll be a shifter like you?" I said, pondering my other options. When I looked up, a jet black panther laid on my bed. "Gosh, that never stops being cool! Here kitty kitty!" The big cat rolled his eyes and Patrick shifted back into his normal form.
"I bet whatever you get it will be awesome! Plus the power sets itself to you, so it will fit you perfectly." He said, wrapping an arm around me. I laughed as I pushed away.
"Come on weirdo, let's go eat."
"Ok Sandra, you're the boss," he chuckled as he popped up and bounded towards the door. We ran down the stairs, getting weird looks from our sisters in the living room. I quickly rounded the corner into the kitchen, my sock-covered feet loosing all traction on the tile floor. I fell. Hard.
"Ow!!" I yelled from behind my uncontrollable laughter. Pat was soon laying on the floor, snorting and shaking with each chuckle.
"Get a room ya nasties!" My sister shouted from the living room. Her words were just met with more laughter, causing her to groan. I finally worked up the stregnth to stand, grabbing my meal card and pushing it into the dispenser. I pressed my thumb onto the scanner and my meal fell from the chute. Mmm, steak and potatoes is on the menu today! Heck yeah!
"Hey, you ready to get up Pat?"I asked, looking at him sprawled out on the floor. He rolled onto his belly and forced himself up.
"What's for dinner?" He questioned as he scanned his card.
"Steak and potatoes! My favorite!"
"Besides sushi but that doesn't come up very often." He added.
"Yep." I said, stuffing another potato chunk into my mouth. Panther Pat appeared, gnawing on the steak. "Wow you really love flaunting that power of yours dont you? Well, soon enough im gonna have mine and its gonna blow yours out of the water!" I joked, cutting a piece off my steak and popping it into my mouth. We ate the rest of the meal in silence because Patrick refused to shift back to human form. I glanced at the clock reading 9:37. "Oh crud, you guys better head home." I said, gesturing to the clock. Patrick shifted back to his human form and shouted,"Maddie! Clean up your messes! We're heading out in 3 minutes!" We could hear them start to complain, begging for more time. "Madeline Bella Forest. Gather your belongings now!" He said, shifting into his panther form and bearing his teeth. She quickly started to put her things back into her book bag. "Bye Kendal! See you tomorrow!" Maddie said as she hopped onto her brother's back.
"Bye Pat! Text me when you get home, ok?" I said, opening the door for them. My panther friend strode out the door, and leaped down the street. I closed the door and headed back to the living room. "Kendal, did you eat dinner?"
"Yep. It was tasty." She said, focused on her phone.
"Well, I'm going to bed. Goodnight Kendal. Be sure to be in bed before mom and dad get home!" I climbed the stairs, put my phone on the charger, and fell asleep.
