The room is solid cement. A heavy metal door and a mirror are the only interrupters of the solid grey room. I forced myself to stand up. I looked into the mirror, seeing what I had become. My hair glowed and flickered, dancing in the air. I started to cry, my tears turning to steam as they rolled down my face. I pressed my hand against the mirror, wishing I could go back to the day before this all happened. I wish I could see Leah. I wish I could see Kendal and chase her around the house. I wish I could see mom and dad. Most of all, I wish for Patrick. I wish he was here, holding me, telling me it is fine. I want to open his little red box. I sat down, crying in the corner. The speaker imbedded in the door let out a ring. "Sandy, are you ok in there?" My mother asked.
"Mom?" I shouted, tears pouring down my cheeks, causing steam to cloud my vision.
"Hi Sandra. I'm here. I can see you. I love you, you know?"
"I love you mommy," I sobbed," I miss you guys so much."
"We miss you too baby girl." She cried.
"Is Pat ok?" I asked her.
"He's fine." She replied.
"I just wanted to touch him," I balled," I didn't know. I would never try to hurt him. He needs to know. I didn't mean to. I just-"
"It's ok Sandy. I know you would never try to hurt me." Patrick said through the speaker.
"Patrick!" I wept, " I've missed you so much. I am so sorry. I wish I could see you."
"I wish I could come in too, but I can't yet. They have to help you first." He said.
"Who is they?" Just as I asked, the metal door swung open. Two women walked into the room, one holding a large metal box.
"Hello Sandy. I am Dr Grace. We are going to try something if you are willing to give it a go." The doctor without a box said.
"I'm willing to try. What's the plan?"
"Here it is," she said gesturing to the other doctor,"We have designed you a chill suit. It had 3 layers. One layer of fire proof fabric on the inside, a lining layer that allows this liquid nitrogen to flow through the suit, and a final spandex layer on the outside." They pulled the suit out of the metal box. I saw the red suit, dreading wearing it. She handed me the suit.
"Uh, could I get a little privacy?" I asked, feeling a bit awkward.
"Oh, of course. Pardon us." she said, leaving the room with the other doctor.
"Hey mom, could you guys make sure no one is watching me. You said you could see me earlier and I'd rather not have that."
"You got it." I heard her call from the speaker. I stripped off my clothes, putting on my red jumpsuit. It covered me from my ankles to my neck, leaving my hands, feet, and face uncovered.
"Ok, I'm clothed, you guys can look."
I heard the metal door open, the doctors coming back in.
"So, we have some gloves for you and some boots." The gloves and boots were jet black. I slid them on. "So this button on the neck of the suit circulates the liquid nitrogen." She pressed the button. I started to feel cold, my glow disappearing. "How does it feel?" Doctor Grace asked.
"Cold, but good. Can I see everyone now?" I asked.
"Sure. You guys can come in. One at a time please." She said as the door opened.
