I opened my eyes, feeling fully charged but something was... Off. My vision was fuzzy and there was a ringing in my ears I couldn't stop. I looked around until I saw what I guessed was a self sustaining tornado of trash. I blinked. "Wha-?" I asked, my voice coming out funny. "Yeah. I don't know how that works. But hey, it's better than a trash can." Said a voice from right next to me. I swiveled my head; it hurt a lot. "I've stared at it so much I got carried away." Sans said, grinning at his terrible joke. I smiled as well. "Good one. Mind explaining how I got up here and why I feel so terrible?" I demanded, changing the subject. "Sure, kid. I had to drag you up. But after a minute or so of dragging you up the stairs, everything fell out of control. Which means the leg I was holding on to disconnected from your already disconnected waist and you fell down the stairs. Something must have happened." He said, shrugging. "No duh something happened? Everything is glitching!" I exclaimed, trying to stand up. My left leg slipped out from under me, and I collapsed back on whatever I was sitting on. I guessed it was a pile of clothes. I moaned loudly, feeling a spark fly from my waist. "You're in worse shape than I thought. We need to get you to Alphys." Sans said, breaking away from his never-ending grin. "No!" I spat, glaring into his direction, but I lost my ability to focus directly. Everything was too fuzzy. "She'll just power me down forever. Mettaton probably already told her what happened."
"Fair point."
"Wait. We're at your house right?"
"Yes."
"Where's Papyrus?!" I said, fear clutching my soul. Sans smiled again, probably seeing my scared expression. "I told him we were out of spaghetti. He'll be gone all day, out with Undyne to find the perfect spaghetti." Hearing my two friends names made my fear dissolve into sadness. "Hey bro, it's 'kay." He said, holding out a black shiny object. I took it. "What is it?" I asked. "Alphys stopped by, earlier. Don't worry, you were already upstairs. She handed me this, telling me it was from Mettaton and that he wanted for you to have your own phone. It has everyone's number."
"Even yours?"
"Even mine." Sans smiled meekly. Everything hurt. I tried to smile weakly back at him, but apparently my robotic brain had other ideas. I short circuited and more sparks flew out, which caused one to light a small fire. After a long list of cuss words and a few water buckets (Sans' idea) and a fire extinguisher (my idea), it was put out and we were both on the floor laughing our asses off. But then... Just then...
The doorbell rang. "Hey Sans?" I asked while I calmed down, still on my throne of clothes. "Yeah?" He asked as he opened the door to leave the room I was trapped in. "Can you get the door?"
"Already was. Sit tight, rust bucket." He snickered, closing the door behind him. I was not fond of my new nickname. I tried to stand to walk downstairs, but my left leg fell to the ground uselessly. I let out one of my newest swear words and hopped to the door. I opened it with more force than I wanted and I peeked out. "SANS, WHERE IS HE?" Asked the booming voice of Papyrus. "Who you talking 'bout, bro?" Sans answered nervously. "You're nervous, Sans." Said the voice I wanted to hear least. Mettaton. I leaned out of the door to listen more. The door gave out, and I fell flat on my face. I let out another word (I was enjoying the words I was using), and scrambled back on my hands and knee. "What was that?" Asked a sharp feminine voice. Undyne. "HIS ROOM IS A MESS. PROBABLY JUST ANOTHER BLASTER." Papyrus stated. I sighed in relief and sunk back down . "Mind if I go look upstairs?" Said the voice of Mettaton. "No." Sans said, and I heard his sneakers shuffling as he blocked the stairs. "Umm..." Mettaton said, sounding pissed off. I smiled. "Thanks, Sans." I whispered. I knew that Sans would get destroyed if Mettaton saw that he was hiding me in his room and the shape I was in. "Augh! You're useless! Papy, Undyne, let's go." Mettaton stomped out, followed by two uncertain footsteps belonging to Undyne and Papyrus. I leaned against the door frame to stand up. "Hey. Sorry I almost got you caught." I said. "No biggie. Hey, your bro seemed really tired. I think he's been looking for you all night." Sans said. "I've got a brother myself. If he ran away, heh, I don't know what I'd do."
"But you two were together your entire lives. At least Papyrus'. I've been here a couple weeks and I'm only here to keep ahold of a part of Mettaton!"
"And he helped Alphys create you so that you could at least find a way to love him."
"I don't have love."
"You do, and if you don't you will develop it. You can't live without love. The ability to spare." Sans said. I frowned. All of this was too confusing. "... Thanks." I said. "No problem. But I'm serious, if this gets any worse you need to get to Alphys."
----------
That night, I was sprawled on Sans' pile of clothes while Sans snored loudly from where his bed was. I was clutching my new phone, staring at it, wanting to turn it on but not wanting to face my friends. I succumbed to my conscience and turned it on. There were a few notifications asking if I was okay, but most of them were just "hello" or "what's up rust bucket" (I growled "sans...." at that).  With a shaking hand, I unlocked the phone.
Inside, a world of color awaited me. Bright, flashing application shelves dove around the screen, beckoning any gentle finger to give them a tap. The buttons flashed in my eyes, the programming ever so elusive.
"Hello, Neo. I am Nami, your personal handheld device. I see your soul's act rate is elevated, do not be startled. Would you like me to give you a quick tutorial? " A flared feminine voice echoed, her tone friendly and meaning to help. I wanted to hear more from this Nami, she was a robot. Maybe she could relate to how I was feeling. Questions spun in my head, but I dismissed them. I was curious, and I had a cause.
"Yes, please. Nami, do you mind starting at how you know me and my soul?" I whisper, leaning into the device. The phone hums, processing the question.
"Ok, Neo. This device was made by Dr. Alphys personally for you some time ago, she apparently did not hand it to you herself due to her timid nature. Sans got into possession of it, and now it is yours. I am programmed to compute with your soul and emotions, as Dr. Alphys thought it might help you stay more sane. She has also left some video logs to help explain-------Neo, your radiation waves show that you are confused, would you like to call Dr. Alphys?"
"No, no thank you Nami. Tell me about these logs." I insist, my twisted mind almost unable to comprehend the small device.
" The video logs left by Dr. Alphys help explain how you were made, what you were made to do, and things you may experience with ways to get around them. The logs are:
