I was awake the entire night, watching and rewatching all of the logs that were entered. I didn't know what time it was when Sans woke up, but he woke up late. He seemed to have forgotten that I was there, and he tensed up when he saw me looking at him. "Morning, lazybones. You were dead asleep." I said, snickering at my puns. He smiled. "Good one. I have to go to Grillby's to work today, so you don't mind if you-"
"You can take me to Alphys, right?" I asked. "What made you change your mind?" He said, confused. "I saw something. The logs? They made me... Happy again." Sans blushed. "All of them?"
"About three times for each video." Sans covered his face. "Oh no." He groaned. I laughed. "What makes you so scared of me?" I joked, nudging him with my elbow. "Ugh. Let's just get you to Alphys."
-------------
"Hey Neo! Thought you'd come over here." Alphys said when she answered the door. "You're in worse shape than I thought. What happened?"
"Sans said I fell down the stairs." We both turned to look at Sans, who was eating a hotdog. "Yeah, to be frank, that's exactly what happened." His smiled widened at his pun. "Just come on in before Neo overheats, it's too hot out today." She ushered us to her workroom, and I handed her the broken leg. "It'll take a few days for me to fix this, until then...."
"What?"
"You have to have crutches."
"But those are for humans!" I exclaimed. "Hey, everything on two legs could have crutches. And you have a human design. They're not hot pink, and it's only for today and possibly tomorrow. I'll go get them." I put my hand to my face. Sans snickered. "This isn't funny, Sans." I snapped. "Sorry, you're expression really hit my funny bone." He laughed. I sighed and leaned against a wall so I wouldn't fall over. Alphys walked back in, and stared at my face. "You're face is a little banged up as well. That's an easy fix, just turn around." I obeyed her command, and spun around. Alphys flipped something open, which was definitely the strangest feeling I could ever feel. Like I was being ripped open but I felt no pain. She fiddled with something, and my eyesight cleared and my hearing went back to default. It felt great. "Thanks Alphys." I said. "No problem." She responded, closing the panel on my back. "Hey, gotta go to work. Ready to go, Neo?" He asked, his grin widening. I sighed again. "Yes. I just want to get today over with."
-------------
"Just sit down with Lesser Dog over there. Don't worry, she's a sweetheart. Just don't pet her that much." Sans informed me, gesturing to a huge dog wearing battle armor. "Okay." I said uncertainly, and I hopped over to the open seat next to Lesser Dog. She seemed to smile, showing huge white teeth. She nudged a stack of cards to me, and something told me she wanted to play a card game. Another dog sat down next to her. He was wearing a tank top and shorts, which to me was as normal as monsters got. "Hey there, pal." He said, lighting a dog treat and putting it in his mouth. "Name's Doggo. You must be Neo, correct?" I nodded, dumbfounded on how he knew. "How I know? Oh, I can smell you on Sans. Best nose there is around here. Now, Less, where's Greater?" He asked. "There's a bigger version of Lesser Dog?" I asked. "Oh yeah. There's also Dogamy and Dogaressa, but they got some puppies to deal with now. Cuties, they are all right. Ah, there you are Greater!" Doggo said, spreading his arms out. "Come, meet Neo!" I waved at the ginormous dog that loped over. He stuck his face close to mine, and a huge pink tongue lolled out. "Uh, hi." I said, petting the dog's head. He seemed satisfied, and claimed the last open seat at the now filled table. Lesser Dog dished out the cards, and Doggo said that we were playing go fish. Something told me I already knew the game, and we played it for hours until Sans ripped me out of the game. "Hey, it's 'bout lunchtime. Want something to eat? It's on me." He said, dressed out of his waiter clothes and was now wearing his blue hoodie again. "Sure." I said, oblivious to what was happening. "I got a table. Follow me." He said, and walked over to a booth. I grabbed my crutches and promised that I'd play with them later. Doggo had a mischievous grin on, and the other two dogs had their tongues out. I blinked, starting to get confused, and followed Sans to the booth.
"So, you wants fries or a burger?" Sans asked. "I'm not hungry. You can get something." I said. He shrugged and walked up to Grillby, probably ordering. He walked back over, still grinning, and the second he sat down a bell jingled and the door to Grillby's opened. I turned my head to look, and I wished I hadn't. Mettaton and Papyrus strutted in, and thankfully they didn't see me or Sans.
"Look, it's Mettaton and Papyrus...I wonder if they are mad at me." I mumble, a sickening feeling brewed in my stomach.
"Ah, relax kid, nobody could stay mad at you for this long." Sans Ruffled my hair, I blushed with an acknowledging smile. A tall flamehead monster scooted in front of us on the other side of the booth, his shadow seemed to darken the whole booth around us. In his hands, many stacked orders of what looked to be French fries towered up to the ceiling. He set the plates down all in front of Sans and I, winked, and left seemingly in a puff of smoke.
"Eat up, kid. It is all for you." Sans chuckled at my confused expression, shooing me with his hand. I gave him a submissive look, passing him a plate.
"No, kid, I already have my food."
" No, you don't! All of this you said was for me.... What are you going to eat?" I raised an eyebrow, my backside tingling when I stared into his big open grin. In response, Sans simply snapped his fingers.
"Sans, what are you..." My chuckle was cut short as Grillby returned o our table, dropping off a full sized bowl of ketchup in front of Sans.
" Thanks, buddy." Sans nodded to Grillby.
" Anything for a rain-or-shine customer." Grillby replied before trotting off to serve more guests.
"Is that....all you want to eat?" I asked, shoveling French fries into my mouth with one ghastly gulp. Sans shrugged, withdrawing a spoon from his pocket. Why did he keep a spoon in his pocket?
"I guess. Then again, my portion just looks small compared to yours." Sans sneered, gesturing with a mocking hand to my pile of fries. I rolled my eyes, blowing some hair out of my face as I did so.
"Well you didn't need to order so much, it is not like I need it to survive." I retorted.
"I know, but it is funny to watch you eat, it reminds me of my Ghaster Blasters when it is time for their supper. Mangy mutts." I blushed, covering my face with my napkin.
"Well if someone taught me, maybe I wouldn't be so--wait, Ghaster Blasters?" I stutter, removing the napkin. Did sans have...other people like me? Was he already...No, I couldn't bring myself to believe it.
" Yeah. Awful brutal creatures, but real softies around food. Took 'pap way too long to stop staring at 'em. He wanted 'em bad, but they are mine. Might get him one for his birthday, if he's lucky." Sans chuckled from a swallow of ketchup. I gulped. This sounded bad, I had to hope for the best.
"Uh...what are they?" I inquire, shivers rattling my fingers. Sans looked up at me, a smile curling at his lips.
"Oh, right. Well, they are kind of...gifts from someone who called me son. Papyrus loved 'em, thought they were cute. They aren't symbolic to him like they are to me, though. He doesn't remember them anymore, he was only a tot. They are my partners, they work for me. They do whatever I tell them, like they did my father. But he was a softie, and he did not know how to use them like I do. He used them as pets, little experiments of his. He never saw them as weapons, never bothered to use their full power. He was just like Papyrus. He loved them, cared for them. But hey, I ain't gonna get mushy for ya, Neo." I stared at him in disbelief. I would have never guessed such a chilled out personality like Sans' would have living weapons at his beck and call.
"So they're....weapons?" I ask, slightly concerned.
"Yeah, I bet I can impress you, if you wanna see 'em." Sans grinned, an eerie feeling seeming to emit from him. He was letting me in, showing me his world. If anything was ever going to happen between us, I needed to know. This could be an opportunity.
