SECRETS

"If you want to keep a secret, you must also hide it from yourself."
― George Orwell, 1984

People lie every day, they even lie to themselves sometimes. It's common in any human being, because there is surely no one in this earth that has never lied not even once. Some say that lies have colors or measures. They are white, pink, blue, big, little, a tad... but they forget that secrets are also lies. To keep hidden a truth, to stay quiet when you know the truth; secrets are also a way to live a lie. You see it's like a bubble, it grows and grows until it pops and there is a big giant mess around.

After what happened with Jason, Terrie has not been able to eat, sleep or even think properly. School started today but her head was somewhere else. She was a minor, Jason was way too out of league for her and she knew that what she did was really wrong and wicked. It was a large wagon yet she couldn't stop thinking how it felt, his warm lips against hers and her body pressed to his.

*Clang*

A sound startled her, she looked at her feet and she noticed that her cup fell right from her hands and broke into tiny pieces. Everyone in the kitchen stared at her blankly as they had breakfast. Looking up she met her mother's eyes.

"I'm sorry, I was distracted" she stumbled against her words. Trying to grab all the pieces with her hands and despite her mother's plead to not do it that way she continued getting her hand a big nasty cut. "Ouch" she cried feeling the piercing object cutting her flesh and getting stuck in her hand. It was a big nasty cut.

"See, I told you to not do it that way. Mike go for our first-aid kit" Mike rose from his chair and ran toward the closet in the hallway. Looking up she met Aria's eyes. Her father was beside her holding her hand while her mother tried to grab the porcelain piece out of her. Cries echoed in the room while they all looked at her wide-eyed. "It needs stitches" her mother commented.

"What?" Terrie wide-eyed asked.

"Cool" she heard Mike whisper. Her eyes shifted from her mother to him.

"Do you want one?" she asked obviously angry.

"Enough" their mother complained. "It's my first day at school too, I can't miss it" she looked up at Terrie's father, Byron.

"I could miss my first day of school" Aria added but their mother ignored her.

"I'll take her" Their father answered sighing. It was also his first day at Hollis. This would mean have her dad beside her worried about their return. "Then I'll drop her here or at school, depends on what they say."

"Does it hurt?" Aria grabbed her sister's hand and pulled her away from their parents and brother. "If he asks..." Terrie stopped her.

"I'll keep a hard face and a hard heart. I know, he does not deserve forgiveness that easy. Especially after coming back here where he could slip again" Terrie looked at her and Aria nodded.

"Just let him know how resentful we are" she hugged her sister. "I wish you would have gone with me, I am going to hate that I'll probably face first day without you" Aria pouted making Terrie smile.
