The world started to come through as a dull blur. My head was swimming through pain. Not being able to focus on anything, I couldn't truly concentrate on my surroundings, so I wasn't able to figure out where I was. I felt cold metal under me though. I must be laying on some metal surface. I heard people talking back and forth in the background. How many where there? Two? Maybe three? They sounded distant, as if I was hearing them through a tube. Slowly, I came to my senses enough to hear their conversation.
"I thought we didn't need any others."
"We need to test this theory on as many people as we can. You know this,"
I turned my head and gazed around the room. The walls were pure white, with a blinding bright light hanging above me. Where was I? A hospital? Did some kind- hearted person find me beat up by the side of the road and bring me here? Wait. My mind raced as the memories of the previous night flashed through my mind.
The scary looking man. The punches. 'What's one more?' The strangers deep voice rang through my clouded mind. What did that mean? And what the other people are saying. What theory? What's going on here? If I was in a hospital...why was I laying on this uncomfortable piece of metal?
"Wait. I think she's awake." It was a female voice. "Halo? Can you hear me?"
A groan was her only response.
"Don't worry, the pain will subside soon enough."
I tried to speak, but no words came out. For the first time, I made eye contact with her, my eyes wide from panic. She was an older woman with wrinkles around her mouth and gray hair that was pulled back in a bun.
She chuckled. "Don't worry. There's no need to be afraid, Halo."
How did she know my name? Fear started to consume me as I looked around the room. This didn't seem like your topical hospital room. It was more empty and had an unsettling air around it.
"You didn't already inject her, did you?" She sounded disapproving as she turned to the man.
"If I did she'd be in a coma," He replied back gruffly. "You know that." He toke a step closer to me and examined me. He seemed average too, tall and lean, with pale green eyes. Nothing to special about either of these people. So where was I? And a coma? I haven't had any injuries server enough to even be in one recently. My mind couldn't wrap around what was going on.
"First we need to take blood, to make sure she doesn't already have any illnesses." He toke out some a clear bottle, soaked some of it's contents on a cotton ball, and rubbed it above my elbow. I tried to protest, but again, no sound came out.
For the love of God why can't I speak? My thoughts raced as I tried to figure out what I was doing here. The male doctor toke out a rather long needle and moved closer to my arm. My eyes nearly budged out of their sockets at the sight of the lethal needle. I was deathly afraid of them. It was always my biggest fear ever since I was a kid. It became harder to breath when I felt the needle prick my arm. I stared at it as blood started to leave my veins and travel into the needle. I wanted to scream, but fear kept my mouth shut. Then it was gone. The doctor toke mercy on me and put the now blood filled needle away. I started to slowly relax, not realizing before how tense I was before.
The male doctor walked out the room without a word to either of us. I tried to sit up, but couldn't when I for the first time realized my wrists and ankles were bound to the table. Man, I need to get myself together. Am I really that dazed from the punch that I didn't even realize I couldn't move my arms or legs? The other doctor stayed, and freed me from the table. I sat up slowly, feeling a heaviness in my chest.
"Easy now," She mumbled. I obeyed, taking it slowly as I stood to my feet.
"Follow me." She walked out the room, expecting me to follow. Which I did. She lead me down a long windowless hallway, with completely white walls, just like in the room. What is this place? I tried to ask, but again my voice seemed to have just disappeared. Why couldn't I talk? Did they do something to me? Why would doctors do that? I stopped in the middle of the hallway. The doctor froze, turning to me.
"What's wrong?" She asked warily, as if she was expecting me to do something crazy. I didn't know what was wrong. Everything was wrong. Let's start with how I'm in what looks like a nut house. I tried to talk. But there was nothing. Then I tried to scream. Still nothing. I just stood there, with my mouth gapping open.
"Oh." She seemed relived, almost unimpressed with my struggling. "You'll have your voice back soon enough. No need to worry." She continued walking. I watched her back as she walked away from me. It seemed like I had no choice but to follow her. So I did. I followed her to a large door with a lock on it. She toke out a key from her lab coat pocket and opened it with ease. I peered inside the apparently guarded room. In it was a small bed, a simple wooden chair, with brown walls and floor instead of the usual white I've been seeing.
"Go on," She pushed me in and quickly closed the door before I could even react. I frowned and toke in my surroundings. What was this? A cell? Sure seemed like it was the lock on the door. I got more nervous as I started processing my situation. I have no idea where I am. There are doctors around. I can't speak. I'm in a freaking cell. I was clearly kidnapped. But by who? And why?
