I glared at the tube. My stomach growled, making me hate myself. I needed to eat, but it couldn't be blood.
"I'm not drinking that." I forced myself to say, even though every atom of my being screamed to drink it.
"You can't eat anything else. It'll make you sick." Cullen frowned, no longer entertained by my rebelling.
"I can't drink that!" Tears threatened to spill over again, as frustration toke over my thoughts. He sighed, and pulled the tube away from me. He might finally understand. I relaxed, but it was short lived when I saw him taking off the top. He put it right under my nose. I toke in some of its scents. A sharp pain suddenly erupted from my jaw and gums, making me yelp. I caressed my jaw in my palm gently, trying to ease the pain.
"Your fangs are already showing signs of forming." He pulled the tube away from my face. "Ready to drink now?" He raised a cocky eyebrow at me, knowing he had me beat. I chewed on the inside of my cheek nervously. Which was more important? Staying with my morals or starving myself?
"Just give it already," I growled and snatched the tube from his hand. I quickly gulped it down, feeling myself come back to life with energy. Sighing happily, I handed the empty tube back to the patient doctor. He nodded at me, and got up, putting the tube away in some drawer in the desk. It may be wrong, but drinking blood was like being baptized. I felt like I was reborn. But I would only drink it when I had to. That was my new vow.
Mr. Cullen turned back to me with a smile.
"Come on, they must be waiting by now." He walked back over to my bed.
"Who?" I swung my legs over the side of the bed, and got up. My knees nearly buckled under my weight, but luckily he helped steady me. A slight blush danced across my cheeks, making me feel hot. Damn his good looks.
"I'm taking you to meet someone very important." He helped me walk out of the room. Once we were out of the door frame, he let go of me. I stood on my own perfectly fine, despite not being on my feet for, what? A few days? It felt like ages. He must of thought I was capable of walking again, because he walked down the hall without another glance at me. I hurried to catch up to him, and followed close on his heels. He lead me down the hallway to a large pair of transparent double doors, and walked out. The instant I was out of the building, I felt a burning sensation dance across my exposed skin. I held back a hiss, and squinted at the natural lighting. I looked around as best I could at the surrounds to see if there was anything to recognize.
Nothing. There was nothing familiar about this place whatsoever. Nothing but thick trees as far as the eye can see. The only thing cutting through the forest was a cement road.
"This way please," Cullen's voice snapped me out of my thoughts. I turned my head to look at him, and followed him to the side of the building. Waiting there was a long, sleek black limo.
"Riding in style, huh?" I asked warily. Clearly we were going to something important. Important enough to go in a limo to that's for sure. But what could that possibly be? I'm a vampire now. Didn't I belong in a cage? Wait. It was because I'm supposedly different. Right. Almost forgot about that.
He laughed and smiled. "Yes we are." He opened the door for me. I looked at the limo suspiciously. I tried to peer inside through the windows, but they were tinted darkly. This seemed a little to sketchy for my liking. Wherever he plans on taking me can't be good.
"Aren't you coming?" He sounded impatient. Any other sixteen year old girl would love to hop into one of these bright shiny limos. But when people have been tampering with your DNA, and suddenly your classified as a vampire, about to be taken so some place you didn't even know...it lost its gleam. Slowly, I walked to the car door. I couldn't get in there, it was madness! I acted like I was about to get in the ride, when I stopped and pulled my hand back,as far as it would go. Then I back handed him right across the cheek, hearing skin smack again skin. He reeled back and held a hand to his now red cheek.
I started sprinting away from him. He shouted something, and I heard other shouts in response. They were running after me, but I didn't dare look back. I only heard. The first thing I did was dart into the woods with hopes of losing them there. As I ran, the low hanging branches scratched my face and grabbed at my clothes. I could still hear the others running crashing through the woods after me, every so often shouts were made like "stop!" or "get back here!" But of course I didn't stop. I ran faster, dashing in between trees and jumping over logs. Finally, they started getting farther away as their shouts sounded more distant with each step I toke. That didn't stop me though. I kept running. Kept going deeper into the woods aimlessly until I was sure that no other soul was near. After what felt like miles, I stopped. I leaned against a tree, putting a hand over my chest. The odd thing was, I wasn't breathing heavily. Or breathing at all. I didn't even catch that until now. Did I just run a marathon without even breathing? Just another vampire perk I guess. I slumped down the tree trunk, and looked up at the sky. It looked like early afternoon. Thank goodness for the shade the trees were providing, or else I'd be in some major pain. At least I was away from those doctors. Now I was faced with a new challenge.
How do I get out of these woods?
