It’s been two days since Phoenix was taken. Chase has been here since I called him; he’s been kind of helping, but he hasn’t left my side and his constant flirting was becoming annoying. “Don’t you have your own job to do?”
“Yeah, but I can’t actually do anything until the boss man says so, so I decided to hang around you for a while.”
“Why? It’s not like-” I was stopped mid-sentence when I could hear Phoenix stirring. He had been doing it on and off for the past two days and I found myself at his side each time. “Phoenix?” He was trying to sit up but I kept pushing him back down. The cuts on his chest kept splitting open every time he sat up, but they had healed well.
“Calypso?” his eyes were squinted tightly like when you’re looking up into the sun. He rubbed his eyes with the ball of his palm. When he shook of his sleep he was on his knees and pulled me into his embrace. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine.” Chase cleared his throat from behind me. I turned to look at him, his arms folded across his chest and his stance was meant for intimidation, “Chase.” Chase said and made a slight movement that looked like a nod.
“Phoenix.” He gave a small nod too. I heard the removalist van pull up. We had to move because my ex employer had fired me because of the relations I had with the targets son.
“I guess I will go sort them out. Don’t kill each other while I’m gone.” As I was walking out of the room Chase slapped me across the back side and gave me a wink. He was marking me his, jeez they’re worse than the freaking werewolves in twilight.

The men had finished packing within an hour; I gave them the address and waited for them to leave before going back inside to get the boys.
“We need to move. It’s only a matter of time before they come.” I say.
We get out to the drive way and they both look at me like the idiots they are.
“Yes.” I finally say knowing exactly what they were asking in the silence.
“What?” Chase asks
“You will ride together; we’ll call it a bonding trip. K.” I get on my bike and tap the plate once again knowing Chase would know to follow me.

The new place was nice, it was another three bedroom house but this one had two bathrooms. I am calling one the “boy bathroom” and the other “My bathroom”. My room was at the end of a corridor and had an adjoining bathroom … My bathroom, hehe and the two boys rooms were opposite each other less than a couple of feet from my room.
“They have had your father a while now, so we don’t know what information they have manage to extract from him.”
Chase and I could both see the look of protest on Phoenix face and we needed him to know everything exactly how it was, nothing was going to be sugar coated.
“Look kid, we know that you love your dad but this is reality, not some show, your father wouldn’t have been able to withstand the punishments he was given without some bad damage to his body, enough to leave us to question whether he is still alive.” I wanted to disagree with him and take away the hurt I saw in Phoenix eyes, but I knew he was right.
“This means we have to play it safe,” I interrupted
“Meaning, don’t try to be a goddamn hero, or you’ll get yourself killed.”
After what looked like him running thought through his mind he said “what do I have to do?”
“Nothing, you sit this out and let the big kids deal with it,”
