“How can this be?” He asks as he paces the room and runs his hands through his hair.
“I’m not exactly sure, but to be sure I will need to go back and get some more samples.”
“What do you mean to be sure, it says right there” he points to the computer, “that that woman is my grandmother.” I stand from my position and stop him in his tracks. I take his wrists in my hands. “You’re burning a hole in my carpet.” His eye line drifts from mine.
“I’m sorry,” was all he said before heading back to his room and closing the door.
I stare at the computer screen trying to absorb what we had just discovered. I needed to get more samples, I needed them now. As much as Phoenix is not ready, I can’t wait for him. I walked to Chase’s door and knocked lightly. “What?” he called from the other side.
“Chase I’m going back, I need more samples to test.”
“I’m not letting you go by yourself.”
“I have to. Phoenix can’t come again, it will be too much for him to handle, I need you to stay here and watch him.”
“He can take care of himself; he doesn’t need a baby sitter.” He argued.
I thought about what he said for a moment, but there was no arguing. If I left Phoenix here by himself he will more than likely do something he will regret and it has now become my mission to protect him, even from himself. I made my way to the front door, “my mind has been made up and you will not disobey me.” Then I got to my bike and left.
My drive there was the most relaxed I have felt in the past few days. I needed a break, but I couldn’t afford one. I didn’t have to protect him, but something in me strives to keep him safe. His father so normal but it was all a hidden reality. He let me know what he wanted me to know. Everything I had discovered was false information. This is why I have to go back. I trusted my brother, Ken, will always be there for me but like he has said before “if you are my enemy I will treat you like one, if your life is at risk then my sister you will be.” He said that to me before we split up. He would protect me when I needed it, but he would not go against the man paying him and threatens his reputation.
I would say Ken and I are as equally famous in this business; however he has worked for more, what we like to call “top notch” assignments. Basically he has worked for wealthy people based all around the world, even a couple of Italian celebrities trying to get rid of annoying paparazzi.
I pulled up in the ally way where we had been not too long ago. There were two cars black SUV’s pulled up out the front. Ken. I can’t go through the front they’ll see me. I spot a broken window that leads into the bathrooms at the back of the building.
I grab the frame of the window and pull myself up into a chin up so I can kick out the jagged glass still left in the window. Once the glass is gone I swing myself in. my landing wasn’t movie like at all. I stumbled and landed on all fours. I exit the bathroom and make my way down the gloomy hallway. I peer around the corner to see the room that we found the woman in and it’s crowded with seven men, one being Kendall and another being Mr Taylor. Four of the men matched each other in height. Their muscles were lean with shaved heads. All of them wore suits apart from Ken. There was another man I did not recognise, he was old and also wearing a suit. His face was grave. Mr Taylor stepped forward, breaking the silence. “Thank you for assistance.”
The man did not speak, just stared at the box. Just Taylor was to leave the man mumbled something. “What was that?” he asked the man.
“I said it is disgusting!” his voice raising with every word. “What you are doing, it is an absolute disgrace.”
