Chapter 3

Amanda pov...

Liv, Fin and Carisi get called out to a new scene where the mother and father were raped by a black man and the daughter Sophie was taken and shoved into a dryer.
Liv rides in the ambulance with Sophie and at the hospital tells the doctor that she was assaulted, the doctor says it's a busy night she has a husband and wife being worked on. Liv tells her "those are her parents".
Why would anyone do that to them it's horrible.

With the unit from our prescient still short staffed and me not allowed in the field we work with officers from the other local prescient where the attacks have happened as last week there was a case with the same MO.  We get to brief them on what is going on and have some of their detectives help to talk to the victims.

I stand around talking to a few people before we brief everyone on this serial rapist. Someone calls out my name and I turn around, he looks at my stomach and I say "doom, how are ya"
he's a detective I worked on a case with a few years ago in Brooklyn. He says "I'm good, I'm good. Congratulations, who's the lucky dad? Is it someone I know?"
I say "I don't think so" before someone calls for everyone's attention so we can start.
Captain Recce and Liv start off the briefing with what information they have before I go over the information that I had found out before Liv and Recce take over and everyone is released with orders on what to do.
Most people are out canvassing the streets and I get to stay at my desk looking for information, I do get a hit on the credit cards which leads them to a store so they have the guy on security camera. They start to lock down the area when a call of officers seeing the guy and chasing him down. The officers chase the guy down to an apartment building where he is shot at the door by three officers. The scene is shut down and blocked off, they check for a gun but can't find one and Carisi checks the guy who's ID shows he is a Terrance Reynolds his vitals are checked and an ambulance is called. The officers who shot him hand over their weapons and head to the hospital to follow procedure.

Carisi searches Terrance's place he finds a tiny amount of drugs but nothing linking him to the rape.

Terrance makes it to the hospital and into surgery but he died during surgery from his injuries.

Terrance was a black male similar to who we were chasing but after going through his apartment, DNA testing and asking the victims it was not the guy who attacked them which makes the case worse as now three officers just shot down and killed an innocent unarmed black young male. Liv went in person to tell Tucker that DNA from the rape victims matched but it wasn't a match to Terrance.

Liv talks to Barba who has to convene a grand jury for the case as the DA says it's the only way for Barba to get into the good graces of city hall.
Barba meets with Reverend Curtis and Terrance's parents where Barba is told that they don't trust the Grand Jury so they will be making a parallel investigation.

I meet up with Doon at a bar where he with the two other offices who like him were involved in the shooting. The two other detectives leave after one asks is is my first child and after I say yeah he wishes me good luck.
I talk to Doon and decide its best not to talk anymore about what happened this public and then give him a ride home as he is too drunk to drive.

Barba talk to 1pp about the officers interviews, how the officers are good and we're doing their jobs and how they seemed over coached or coached to lie.

The next morning I am on my phone when walking into the prescient when Declan Murphy calls out my name. I ask "what are you doing here?"
He walks over to me and asks "how far along are you? I'm 4,000 miles away in Serbia trying to take down a sex trafficking ring. I still heard about it."
I say "seven months." and smile
He says "So that weekend back in February, the blizzard?
I say "yeah"
He says "It's mine?"
and I nod he asks "When were you gonna tell me, darling?"
I tell him "well, like you just said, you were 4,000 miles away.Didn't really know how to get ahold of you."
He says "fair enough but I'm here now"
I ask him "for how long?"
He says "can't say"
I say "That's why I didn't bother you with it. I mean, you don't have time to worry about it."
He says "I'm not worried"
I tell him "Okay, but it's gonna be okay.
My my mom's coming up, um it's it's my my decision. Don't worry, it's not your responsibility"
He says "But it is. We got to talk. I'm not just gonna walk away. You know that"
I tell him "We'll talk. Right now, I got to get upstairs. It'll be fine. Right now there's a lot going on that I got to deal with. We'll talk."
My phone goes off and he says "that's me, call that number and I'm on a plane in an hour"
I smile and nod as I walk away, I save the number under D so that only I will know who it is.

Footage is released of the shooting that changes things and it was on tv for everyone to see.

After the trial the grand jury decides to indict the three officers involved in the shooting.

I meet at the bar along with other cops and their is fighting about what happened at the trial when we get notified of another shooting. In the hospital when Liv asks "what's the status?"
I tell her "he didn't make it, he got shot in the face, they couldn't do anything for him"
Fin says "traffic stop gone wrong, they got the shooter"
Liv looks in the room and asks "that the wife?"
Carisi says "yeah, two kids. 24"
Liv asks "does it get any worse?"
I say "it might the mayors on his way up"
and I walk away.
