Ezra's POV
My eyes were closed as I hung suspended in the blue force field thing. I was using the force to try to reach Kanan. It was like talking to a brick wall.
I felt a spike of fear in my mind. It didn't feel like my own, or Kanan's. I traced the fear to the mind link I shared with Kimble. Fear was coming from her in waves.
Kimble! I called. KIMBLE!
It was no use. She was too scared to hear me. Whatever was going on where she was, it couldn't be good. I took a deep breath and prepared myself for what I was about to do. I might die in the process, and even if I didn't I would probably be killed by the Inquisitor. But I would not let them hurt Kimble!
My anger helped me focus the force. I sent it in the direction of Kimble's cell.
I would not let them hurt Kimble. I would kill them first.
Kimble's POV
The Inquisitor was about to step forward and deliver the finishing blow when a wave of cold washed over us all. He lowered his lightsaber.
"What is the meaning of this?" he demanded. I was as confused as he was. The two stormtroopers fired their blasters and I flinched backwards, but the bolts stopped in midair. The hovered for a moment before blasting back at the stormtroopers who shot them. The stormtroopers fell to the ground and didn't get up as the temperature dropped further.
"You are a fool," the Inquisitor growled. He raised his lightsaber.
A ghost appeared between me and him. But it couldn't be a ghost. Not if Ezra was still alive.
"Ezra Bridger," the Inquisitor said. Ezra raised a hand and the Inquisitor's lightsaber deactivated. The cell door closed and the temperature dropped again. I could see my breath in front of me and I shivering violently.
"You don't know what you're doing!" the Inquisitor said. Ezra lowered his hand slightly and the temperature dropped further. I wasn't aware of falling down, but suddenly I was on the ground. My vision started to go dark. I couldn't believe that I was going to freeze to death on a planet that was basically lava.
"Ezra . . ." I whispered. Ezra turned to look at me. His eyes weren't blue anymore. They were orange and red.
That couldn't be Ezra. That was some kind of monster.
Everything faded into darkness.
Ezra's POV
I could see Kimble. She was on the ground, her breath misting up in front of her. I could see that she was fading. Seeing her dying was enough to snap me back to my senses.
What was I doing? Was I trying to freeze the Inquisitor to death? How dumb could I be? Of course Kimble would be effected as well!
Kimble's eyes closed and my connection with the force broke. I opened my eyes and panted back in my own cell.
What had I done?
Kanan's POV
I woke up with a start. I was on board the Ghost. We were in the dead of space at the moment, attempting to hide from a bounty hunter that the Empire had sent after us.
I tried to remember what had woken me up. It had been a blast of cold. And someone calling Ezra's name.
That meant that the Dark Side had been used. I could only hope that it hadn't been Ezra who used it. If it was, it was all the more important that we find where Ezra was.
