Kanan's POV

My vision was coming true.

"Throw me my lightsaber!" I told Zeb. I had been hoping I wouldn't have to use it, but now I had no choice. He tossed it to me and I caught it as I turned the corner.

A figure in a dark robe was standing a short distance away. He was shooting blue force lightning at Ezra, who was on the ground twisting in pain.

No one treats my padawan that way.

I activated my lightsaber and the cloaked figure stopped.

"Who are you?" I demanded.

"That question is not relevant," the cloaked figure said. "I see my Inquisitor has failed once again."

"You are about to experience the same failure," I told him as everyone else turned the corner. "You're outnumbered."

The figure laughed. He gestured with his hand. Someone stepped out of a nearby cell. I recognized them. Darth Vader. I had fought him once. It wasn't something I wished to do again.

"I'm afraid that you will find it is you who is outnumbered," the cloaked figure told us. Darth Vader activated his red lightsaber.

"Run!" I shouted to the others. "I'll get Ezra."

"I'm staying with you Kanan," Zeb told me.

"I need you to get these kids to safety," I told him. He hesitated and then nodded. They all ran back the way we had come as I stepped forward to engage Darth Vader.

Our lightsabers clashed again and again, but nothing I did seemed to do any good. I couldn't even scratch him. All the while the cloaked person stood in the background laughing maniacally.

"I tire of this game," the cloaked figure said. "Finish him. Quickly!"

Darth Vader backed away from me and extended his hand in a grabbing motion. I grabbed my throat as I started chocking. My feet left the ground and I could see darkness creeping in the edges of my vision.

Sabine's POV

As soon as everyone was aboard the ship (including Chopper) Hera found us and started complaining.

"What's going on?" she demanded. "Why is everyone except the person we came here to rescue and Kanan on board my ship?"

"Kanan stayed behind to save Ezra and defeat to Sith," I explained quickly.

"You left him ALONE?" Hera asked.

"Not for long," I said as I finished putting on my old armor. Zeb had managed to get out of his stormtrooper armor as well. "Let's go Zeb."

The two of us ran back the way we had come and towards Kanan. When we turned the corner, things were looking grim. Kanan was being held in the air by the force, choking by the look of it.

"Ready for a miracle?" I asked Zeb quietly. He smiled.

I tossed a detonator in the direction of the Sith. It exploded, filling the air with fire and smoke. Kanan dropped to the ground and we ran to his side.

"Let's go!" I said.

"Wait! Where's Ezra?" Kanan asked. Zeb walked towards the explosion.

"He's gone!" he reported. "So are those two guys!"

"No . . ." Kanan moaned. "He can't be."

The building shook and I fought to keep my balance.

"MAIN STABILIZERS HAVE BEEN DAMAGED," an electronic voice said over the hidden speakers. "THE FACILITY IS SINKING. IT IS ADVISED THAT EVERYONE EVACUATE IMMEDIATELY."

"We don't have time to stick around! We've got to get going!" Zeb shouted as the building rocked. He grabbed a protesting Kanan and began pulling him in the direction of Bay 4. I glanced back one final time. It was true. Ezra had vanished.

We ran into the Ghost. Zeb left Kanan in the lounge before running to man the cannons. I ran to the cockpit where Hera was beginning the takeoff sequence.

Moments later we were safely away from the sinking prison. I turned to watch as it sank completely into the lake of lava. Then it was gone, and we were in the safety of space.

"Well, glad that little crisis is over," Hera said lightly. I couldn't meet her eyes as she stood up and went to the lounge. Zeb and everyone else was there. Kanan still looked shocked.

"Well," Hera said brightly, "we picked up a few more passengers than intended, but we succeeded in the end."

She glanced around, the forced smile on her face slowly fading.

"Where's Ezra?" she asked.

"Hera . . ." I began. I couldn't finish.

"The kid didn't make it," Zeb finished for me. Hera sat down.

"We lost two," I said. "Ezra and prisoner 60."

"Ben," Conner piped up. "I met him once."

"Ezra's still alive," Kimble said. "I can feel it."

"Where is he?" I asked. She hesitated.

"I don't know. The mental link isn't right. I can't feel anything coming from him. Only that he's alive."

None of us had the heart to contradict her. Ezra Bridger was dead. He couldn't have survived.
