Chapter 9
"One and jump and three, four, five, six, prepare, eight." Ms Jen walked me through the new steps. I nodded and copied her every move- I was picking this choreography up fast. I'd always been a fast learner, but this choreography was coming so easily. "Got it?"
"Yup. What am I preparing for?"
"Eight fouettes, seven turns in second, four pirouettes, lunge and bring your arms up out of it. Sound good?"
"Sounds great."
"Miranda, why don't you show her what it's going to look like with the music?" Tabithia suggested. I shook my head no.
"It's fine. I understand." I said quickly. "Why don't I do it from the beginning?" I suggested.
"Oh, okay then." Jen agreed easily, and I moved to the edge of the floor and waited for my cue.
"Up next is entry number one, Alison with Another Girl, recorded by Anna Ayers." Miranda said, and I frowned before moving to the upper right corner. My music started and I did the moves easily, not really putting much effort into it. I knew that Ms. Jen could tell by the look on her face. When the new section came, I put all the energy that I'd saved during the routine into this new part. I lunged out of my turns like Ms Jen had demonstrated and immediately straightened up.
"That was lovely. Well done, especially at the end." Tabithia complimented me. "What do you think, Miranda?"
"It was good. Really good." She said absently. Did she know this song was kind of about her?
"Awesome. Well, work on that in the little studio, being Ave in here." Jen said absently. "Thanks Ali! You were great today."
"Thanks Ms Jen." I mumbled as I walked out of the main studio. "Avery? It's your turn." I said, poking my head into the dressing room.
"Where are you going?" Giordy asked me.
"Little studio to practice. Want to come?" I invited her. She nodded excitedly and set her chemistry booklet down. She scrambled to her feet and followed me into the little studio.
"Want to switch off?" Giordy asked as she took the CD labelled 'Alison' and slipped it into the CD player.
"Sure. Can you announce me?"
"Entry number 1, Alison with... Another Girl." She said. I went to my beginning spot, and waited for the music to begin.
I ran through with my routine with ease, simply marking the turning section.
"Have you ever just listened to the lyrics of this song?" Giordy asked when I finished.
"No." I said between deep breaths. "Why?"
"It's a lovely story. And I think if suits your current situation well." She smiled. "Do you want me to play it and you can just listen?"
"Sure, if you'd like." I agreed. She nodded eagerly.
"There's literally one part that doesn't go with the story you told us, and it's the winter part. The rest is perfect." She smiled, pressing play.
I listened to the beginning appreciatively. The piano was lovely. But when Anna Ayers began to sing, I listened for the lyrics, and the lyrics only.
"Maybe we can; Talk about it; Both of us are thinking more than we really need. Times are changing, days are shorter; and soon enough the light, will go.
"Something in the way that I'm feeling about me losing you." She sang, with a sudden intensity in the music. There was violins and piano and drums... Why was I just noticing the beauty of this song?
