Riley, Alexa, and I sit in the back but because of the size of the car, Maya has to sit on Cris's lap and Emile drove.
"Go ahead, do your lap dance." Says Emile.
"Fuck off, this is cause you're cars to small." She says, jokingly.
"Oh, well maybe your bike would have seated up all more comfortably." She rolls her eyes.
"Bitch." Says Emile.
"Woof."
"I hate you."
"She learned that from me." I say,Maybe a little jealously.
"Oh, that games not over, huckleberry." She said intimidatingly.
"If you insist." I tipped my friend hat. It didn't really work. I couldn't focus, I was so excited that she wanted to continue.
"I think Maya won that one." Says Riley, laughing at us as we arrive.
"Oh, this beach?" She said, disappointed.
"Ya, wasn't your first fuck in college here?"Emile asks. It makes me uncomfortable to picture the Maya that I knew, messing around with that stuff like it was nothing.
"Ya, it's also were I met Brandon, asshole." She climbs out of the car, and so do we. Brandon was the one that triggered that cut. I didn't know that Emile knew about him.
"Oh, sorry Maya. I didn't know that. Do you wanna go to the other?" He asks as we opened the trunk.
"No! I'm not avoiding this beach just cause I met some dick here." She grabs a towel.
"Actually, you met two." Immediately, she whips the towel at him.
"I'm getting you In that water right now." He says reaching for her arm.
"No!" She screeches, dropping the towel back into the trunk and running onto the beach laughing as he chased her. I watch there silloute's against the setting sun as the ran. Maya's wavy pony tail, moving side to side as she ran. She had something special with Emile. I wish I did, no one understood why they didn't date. Maybe they understood it. In some sort of magical way, they knew exactly what the were to each other. I wish did.
"I love watching them together." Says Riley, then noticing my apparently telling face.
"You're jealous!" She says, excitedly. After dating for six months in high school, we discovered that we would always just ended up acting like friends and were not even really a couple anymore.
"Come on, you know Maya would never feel that way about me."
"No necessarily." Says Cris, walking around the car. "She doesn't treat you the way she looks at you."
"So you're saying that she likes me."
"I don't know, I'm not as good as that Farkle kid, all I know is you're special to her in some way."
I look over at the water to see Emile cradling Maya in his arms as she kicks, laughing, and Emile walking in knee deep and then putting the squirming Maya in the water. She grabs his leg and pulls sending him falling under the water. She has so many people in her life, I don't always know who she really cares for. I know she cares about Riley, Farkle, Emile, Alexa, and Cris for sure but it seemed like after she told me how she actually felt and I still went out with Riley as she drifted away, she got over me, and didn't feel anything for me.
"I doubt that. I bet she only really talks to me because I live below her."
"She used to be one of your best friends. I thought you still were."
"We are but you know, she keeps so many people that don't matter to her around her. Its hard to see which ones do."
I grab her towel and Riley grabs Emile's and we walk to the water were they are standing. She runs out and grabs it.
"Thanks, huckleberry." I wrap the towl around her as she shivers.
"The water cold?"
"Very."
"Want me to warm you up?"
"How?" I put my arms out to the sides.
"Eh, why not?"
She steps in and lets me wrap her arms around her. She's short and small so it is awkward but the feelings weren't awkward. She there was no space between us. After another moment she pulled away.
"Thanks." She said running of to catch up with Riley. I know it meant nothing to her. Just a way to warm up.
