I check my phone to see that it is 1 am.
Riley and I are sitting next to each other. She's watching the rippling waves and the reflection of the moon on the water. I'm watching Maya. She's throwing the shells in the shore into the water. Her arm going behind her and then flinging it forwards with all her might. I love watching her do this. She seems so much like an innocent little girl. She is wearing the dry shorts and t-shirt that she brought with her because Emile had threatened her that she would get soaked. Emile didn't bring backup clothes so he had to wear his wet bathing suit but that wasn't a problem, considering we were at a beach. She had the hood of her sweatshirt, The only thing keeping it on her, on her head. She didn't want to put it down on the sand so she just put the hood on at let the rests hang down her back she says that shells deserve to be in the water.
"I'll be right back, Riles."
"Tell her you love her."
"Ya, sure." I say sarcastically. If I just plain denied it then she wouldn't believe me. I love having Riley as a best friend. Not a girlfriend, not a sister, just a friend. My best friend. I walk over to Maya.
"What are you doing?" I say, more as just a way to start talking because I know what she's doing, but I like the way she puts it, though its kinda weird.
"The shells deserve to be in the water." She takes the last shell from her hand and chucks it.
"Weirdo." I pick up a shell.
"I take that as a compliment." She says ,also grabbing one. Though she was popular, she never wanted to be normal. Somehow, standing out made her popular, instead of just fitting on the best.
"I meant it as one."
"Then, thank you." I Throw the shell as far as I can. It goes further than Mayas had gone but not by much.
"Oh, it's on." She says. Then chucks the shell getting it to go further than mine by a bit.
"Round two." I say. We grab another two shells. This time mine goes, further.
"Round three." she says smirking. We throw at the same time and hers goes a little further.
"Ohhhhh!" She says putting her hands up in victory. "I win." I can't help but laugh as she skips off to Cris and Emile. She is one lovable girl. That never changes. I walk back to Riley who is laughing at me.
"Not my best game." I said sitting back down.
"Aw, did she distract you?"
"Shut up." For a minute we just sit.
"Do you ever miss the old her?" I suddenly ask.
"She hasn't changed, Lucas. She's just not ours." She was right. Maya had always been daring, rebellious, and outgoing. She was right about the second part too. She was one of our closest friends but a lot of the time it seemed like she had other friends that came before us.
"You're right." I say to let he know that I acknowledge what she said.
"She needs you though. You're the only one that she told about her wrist for a really long time.
"Because I saw it."
"But she told you why."
"Did she tell you?"
"Ya, but a while after." I found out two weeks after. I haven't seen it sense but the memory of the scar still scares me.
"How's Farkle?"
"Still dating Liz."
"Are you mad at Maya for setting them up?"
"She didn't know I liked him at the time."
"I'm sorry you can't be with him right now. You just have to be a little patient, I guess. I know it stinks but for now Maybe you can find someone else."
"Maybe I'll ask Maya to set me up but I don't know yet. I might just think of Farkle the whole time."
"What do you have to lose?"
"You're right." I turn towards Maya who is being picked up by Emile by holding her waist. She screams of shock and he lets her down, laughing.
"I hate you!" She says to him also laughing now.
"Maya!" I call.
"What?" She runs over.
"Can you hook Riley up?"
"Of course I will."
"Thanks Maya." She said.
"You're an easy case." She basically meant that she was pretty and likeable.
"How's Saturday Wednesday night, seven, pizza, with Mark?"
"How do you already have this planed?" I ask.
"Cause he asked me too. Besides, I think you will like each other a lot. Im still sorry about Farkle, Riles." Riley shakes her head.
"I should have told you."
"I should have known though."
"I hid it."
"Riley, Maya, I need you're help with something." Calls Alexa. Both girls leave to help her leaving me on the sand.
