----------------------------------------------------------------------Alice
The atmosphere in Bobby's lounge was tense, to say the least. Alex was pinching a bloody nose whereas Oliver was nursing a split lip. After Oliver's declaration of their blood ties, a fist fight had broken out, neither of them reluctant to harm the other. Half-brothers. I found the notion hard to stomach.
Dean, being impatient, cleared his throat and broke the highly awkward silence. "Would somebody care to explain what the hell is going on?" Dean had asked the question playing on all of our minds, voicing our curiosities.
I glanced around the room. None of the parties being questioned made eye contact except Oliver, who had the balls to wink at me. The wink didn't go unnoticed by Alex who clenched his fists tightly, restraining himself from crossing the room and punching Oliver again. Oliver, pleased to have gotten a reaction from Alex, smirked and spoke up, "I will."
Dean rolled his eyes. "Of course you will," he muttered, but Oliver carried on regardless.
Oliver dramatically stretched out his legs and crossed his arms, his extremely arrogant side appearing and taking the reins. If I hadn't known the softer side to him, I would have labelled him as a jerk and made a mental note to avoid him at all costs.
"Well, some nineteen or twenty years ago, this old geezer-" he paused to gesture at Jonathan "-decided to have a child with my mother. Bam! I was born. A couple of years later, the same old geezer bailed on me and mommy dearest and had another child – the preferred one – with some other chick. Bam! The golden boy was born." Oliver's voice was cutting and dripping with venom and malice as he told the story. "Oh, but that's not all. My mother raised me for a few more years, up until I was six, and then she slashed open her wrists because she couldn't bear the pain of losing her husband any longer."
Everything clicked into place; the reason Oliver hated Alex with a burning passion was because he blamed him for his mother's death. I had to fight the urge to go to Oliver's side and comfort him, even though it would have been inappropriate in that moment. After all, we did share the pain of losing a mother.
Jonathan decided it would be the perfect time to speak up. "Oliver, I'm sorry about your mother, I really am. But you can't keep blaming Alex for what happened to her." Jonathan reached out an arm to touch Oliver's shoulder, a gesture that was meant to be comforting. However, the gesture reignited Oliver's fury as he shrugged the hand off and punched his father straight in the face.
I gasped in shock at the action. I now understood the extent of Oliver's feelings against the Reynolds', but I hadn't been expecting him to actually hit his father. Deciding that it was time to stage an intervention, I moved across the room and gently placed my hand on Oliver's chest. "I think you need to cool off, let's go outside," I said as persuasively as I could. I looked to my father and he nodded in agreement, telling me that we should leave. "Come on," I coaxed, and exited through the back door.
Oliver followed like a reluctant puppy, suddenly wearing a guilty expression. "I'm sorry for dragging you into my personal shit," he said once we were outside.
"Idiot, I don't care about that," I said dismissively. "Couples are supposed to help each other through emotional struggles."
A small smile played on his lips, although they were still bleeding. "You mean to say that we are officially a couple now?" Oliver draped an arm around my waist, an act I found to be natural.
