- Samantha POV -

I took a deep breath, 'Well Samantha this is the beginning of new life for you.' I thought as I rolled my bag on the sidewalk.

I walked up to the crowded dorm area and pushed past people who seemed just as nervous as I.

I finally approached dorm number 11. I heard loud music blaring from the outside of the room. Which made me start to wonder what my roommate was like. I prayed she wasn't weird. I let out a small sigh and knocked on the door.

After various knocks and no answer, I finally just barged in.

The girl, who was laying on her bed, jumped up looking terrified and said, "fuck.. you scared me.."

"Sorry.." I mumbled. I looked at her awkwardly and set my bags on the bed that wasn't already occupied with things.

"I'm Kayla. and you're my new roommate I'm assuming?" She asked turning her music down.

I nodded and sat on my bed taking in the girl before me. She would be new roommate for a year. Someone I would be spending so much of my time with. Hopefully someone I become really close with.

I nodded and gave a small smile, "Yeah, I'm Samantha. Well, people call me Sammy.. either is fine.." I said shrugging and giving a nervous giggle.

I was always awkward at first. I hated that I was, but I couldn't help it.

"Oh nice, I'm going to call you Sammy. it's cute, cute little nickname." She laughed and smiled.

"Okay so, well I already picked this side of the room, I hope that side is okay for you." Kayla said turning her music off completely and and looked at her phone.

"Yeah, anything is cool." I admitted and started taking things out of boxes.

"So.. no crying, emotional parents I noticed." She laughed laying back on her bed.

"Oh, well no.." I stopped unpacking and looked at her. "My parents are divorced and my mom and I decided that she would just drop me off to make it easier on the both of us." I shrugged.

At the thought of my mom I got home sick. I sighed and started to unpack again.

"How sweet." Kayla said. I couldn't tell if she was being sarcastic or not but I just shrugged it off and kept unpacking.

"Want some help?" She asked after about 10 minutes of silence. Her gesture was sweet and I accepted.

She sat on the floor with me and helped me unpack. We sat quietly unpacking, occasionally making small talk.

I found out she is originally from Pennsylvania. She is studying psychology. She didn't have a boyfriend but it seemed like she wasn't the boyfriend type. Kayla told me she liked to party, a lot. And rather than keep a boyfriend she would kind of just sleep around. She said she wasn't very proud of that, but I wasn't one to judge.

"I'm glad you're my roommate." I laughed and looked at her, "I don't think I could handle living with someone else."

"Aw, me too." Kayla responded standing up, "I'm starved." She groaned stretching.

I stood up and looked at my phone. Plenty of text messages from my mom and boyfriend, Luke. I decided to look at them later, so I just checked the time.

7:50

"What should we go eat?" I asked. I didn't know anything about the campus, but Kayla was an expert. She told me all about the places to eat and shop on campus. She also told me about everything and everyone here.

When I asked her how she knew everything she just shrugged and laughed. Which seemed very odd to me, but I just let it go.

"I want.. Hm." She tapped her finger on her chin thinking, "French Fries."

I nodded, "That sounds good." I smiled and looked at my newly set up bed.

"Alright, well lets go." She grabbed her keys and phone, then her sweatshirt.

I grabbed my phone and jacket. I followed her out to her car smiling. I had made a new friend already. Maybe college wouldn't be so bad.
