Draco
He knows.
That Weasel knows something of my encounter with Granger. He's improved on dueling skills greatly, hence my fear of him finding out. He seems to be becoming overprotective of his precious little Granger since a girl that still has some sanity finally showed interest in him. Things about this year and Granger with the Weasel were flying in my mind a million miles a minute as I walked back to potions class.
As I started to reach the dungeons entrance, I heard footsteps. They were getting louder and louder as they were coming closer to me--until they stopped. I whirled around with my hand on my right pocket incase I needed my wand, and as I turned to see who it was, my hand relaxed on my side. It was Granger. I was able to crack a half grin as I said to her "Granger...where're you heading to?" She replied kind of nervously "I was heading to the dungeons actually...to deliver a note from Professor Sprout." I told her "Well, I'm heading back to class as well. Do you mind if I walk with you?" I could tell she was hesitant and wasn't really all that surprised. Especially after how I was the past few years. After a long pause, she agreed. "Erm...sure, I guess."
I stepped aside and let her down the steps first and tried to use at least some manners. I needed to make as much of this aftermath as I could right. As we walked side by side down the stairs together, I proceeded to try and engage her in conversation. "So...who are you delivering the note to?" She replied "Slughorn. Something about using some of his potion herbs for next week's lesson." Slughorn. It was the class I myself was returning to, so it gave me great opportunity to talk to her for a good amount of time. She asked in the moment of silence "So...just out of curiosity, what were you going to say to me before you went to potions?" I felt my face go a bit hot, but it seemed to be not enough to show any blushing judging by her face. I was hesitant, but I responded with a slightly shaky voice. "I-I wanted to say...the blood status is behind me. And I'm sorry for calling you...Mudblood..." I had to think hard about my next words. "I'm sorry...Hermione." She stopped on the endless staircase to the dungeons. I heard her stop and went back up the stairs to meet her where she stopped. She just stared at me like she'd never seen me before. "Y-You...you called me by my first name...?" Half of me wishes I hadn't said her name, but I'm happy that I did. "Yea. You know, new start and all." I replied. She did something she never did before, in which I couldn't believe my eyes for what they were seeing.
She smiled at me.
She didn't look as if I was scum on the bottom of her shoes--she gave me a real smile! I wasn't sure what to do, so I just awkwardly smiled back. We just stared into each other's eyes for a moment or two...Her eyes are...are beautiful... I thought. They were so bright and full of hope and happiness...but she jerked her head and shook it. "We...we need to get to Slughorn's. If we're gone to long, Slughorn and Sprout will start to wonder where we are." She said. She proceeded to walk down the stairs then came to a stop. She noticed I didn't follow immediately and said, looking at me, "Are you coming?" She grinned for a brief second and waited for me to come by her side. I walked down to her and we continued to walk the last two flights of stairs to the dungeons.
We had entered Slughorn's classroom to see he was in the middle of lecture. He looked at us while the class was turning to see us after him. Hermione spoke first. "Excuse me, Slughorn? I-we, are sorry to interrupt your class...I-I have a note from Professor Sprout." Slughorn said with enthusiasm "Ah! Yes, Ms. Granger! Let me see that note. Mr. Malfoy, did you deliver the note to Professor McGonagall?" I quickly replied "Yes sir." He replied "Good...good. Now, that note, Granger?" I sat in my seat at the back of the room with Zabini and Goyle as she went to deliver the note to the front of the room. Slughorn read it briefly and dismissed her. As she was about to go through the door, we exchanged a goodbye glance, and so she left.
Zabini and Goyle gave me looks like "Why did you grin at her when she left? She's a filthy Mudblood, remember?" I ignored their glares and stared off into space and thought. Do I actually have a friend who's a mud-uh, muggle born? She didn't look at me as if I was filth, and she smiled at me. I began to think about her eyes... Her eyes were beautiful...Hey guys! I am SO sorry that this update is late! I've been really busy with my other book (not fan fic BTW) but yea. I LOVED writing this chapter, and it's one of the most important ones (of future chapters to come). I'm sorry guys, but I will be taking a LONG break from this book. By long I mean a month, or two, or more so I can work on my other book. Yes, I know it's not the most popular choice on where to stop for a certain amount of time, but if I don't update in that certain amount of time, then you guys won't know why. Anyways, hope you guys enjoyed this chapter!
