The Unsuspecting Spy

Trey couldn't sleep. Did the trap work? Would they catch the spy working against them. He hoped so because Trey desperately wanted answers for the two sabotaged aid missions that Nicholai had planned. Who would ever support a person as evil as Redom? He began to think of the thousands of possible suspects, everyone from turned scullery maids to allied Noblemen. (But I'll let you in on a little secret, not once did the actual traitor cross his mind) Trey tossed and turned mulling over the possibilities until pure exhaustion lured him into a troubled sleep.

All the while the spy thought she had gotten away free of detection. What she didn't know was that Jacob had been hiding in the shadowed alcove in the room next door long before the servant slunk into the hall. What he discovered as he scoped her mind was troubling indeed, she was someone that was quiet and polite and never had caused any trouble for the years she had worked in Riften castle.

"Jacob, we can't tell him."
"But he needs to know. He wants to know...he won't stop asking."
"But, it will break his heart."
Gabriella looked sadly at Jacob shaking her head. She couldn't think of telling her brother that the only person he'd trusted turned out to be the spy. Gaby could tell Trey was pacing just outside the door waiting to see the small girl scowling in the chair near them.
"I guess he'd find out one way or another." The guard went and opened the door and Jacob watched as Trey poked his head around the corner. He was shocked, no--he was in irrefutable disbelief. Jacob felt as his emotions fluctuated from shock to sadness to anger. He stared a her for a long while, thinking, remembering everything he told her in confidence and sadness. Trey felt betrayed in every sense of the word. He had avoided telling anyone anything for the longest time, bottled up his emotions and thoughts. But then he'd met Ski. She was caring and understanding and he almost thought he loved her and not Gaby. It was too good to be true and he knew it and now it had cost some their lives. Ski looked at him with guilt for a split second and then looked away. Of course. He turned on his heel and stormed away to manage his emotions and be alone.
Of course.

Gaby was afraid. Afraid of what Trey would do. He seemed too emotional to think rationally and she hadn't the slightest clue where he'd gone. The kid with stealth talent was hard to find? Who would've guessed. Gaby continued walking down towards Trey's room until she came to find his door wide open. She knocked on the frame and stepped inside. The room was a mess, the bed sheets torn off the mattress and papers and clothes strewn haphazardly around the floor. For a moment Gabriella thought it had been a spy searching for something or a thug come to find Trey. She worried for only a second as she heard a sniffle come from the corner of the room. No one was there, well no one visible. Gabriella sighed with relief and cautiously approached Trey, or at least who she assumed was Trey.
"Hey. A-are you? Well are you okay?"
She reached a hand to where Trey's shoulder should've been and as she did so he came into view. His face was tired and streaked with tears.
"Gaby. Gaby why didn't I realize? She-she was too perfect I should have known... I should have-."
Gaby hugged him close to her as he began sobbing more.
"No Trey. You shouldn't have. Nobody was here for you and you needed someone to love, someone to rely on. It is not your fault she took advantage of that. It's her fault. She made the choice, not you." She hugged him close. Willing him to believe her, to understand that you couldn't live if you didn't trust some people some times.
"Gaby. It's just so unfair."
" I know. This whole thing is unfair."
And she held him close trying to decide what she could do to make him feel better. Nothing came to mind so she hugged him tighter and stayed silent. After a while Trey stopped sobbing and fell into a deep sleep. Gaby had no idea how he would ever get over this and she didn't blame him, if Jacob...no she couldn't even think that way.

How dare that woman run! How dare she think she has beaten me! I will run Maldova and it's army into the ground before I let her and those bastard children escape me.
King Redom paced around his office in fit of rage. Spontaneously his hand would spark and fizzle. Very few people in Colomaindia  knew the king had a talent and no one usually lived to tell if they'd seen it. But today the kind did not care, his fury bubbled and exploded into a plan. A plan that caused his hands to go cold and his face to curl into an evil grin. Not only did this get him what he wanted but it also saved him time, money, and soldiers. War was not the answer after all. Trickery? Now that was a game he knew how to play all too well.
