The drive to New York was long, quiet, and boring. Since Kyle came with his car, I told Nico that it wasn't necessary for him to shadow travel us. He did take it as an offence, but I told him that he needed to be at full strength when we got to camp. We didn't need him sleeping on the job when he is supposed to protect me from the evil mob that will want to kill me when I show my face. Nico chuckled and said that he would listen to me just this once. Next time he will shadow travel us to where ever, consequences be damned.

We were about 1/2 way there, it was four in the afternoon, we only had two stops - one for a bathroom break, the other for a lunch break.

We decided that we will drive until seven in the afternoon, and then, Nico will shadow travel us the rest of the way. That way, Nico won't be as tired. As for Kyle's car, we will pour mist over it so people won't be able to see the car.

I sighed, and leaned back against the car seat. It wasn't very comfortable, but neither was it too uncomfortable. Kind of like sitting on a rock for a long time. Comfy at first, until you feel the first signs of cramps but too lazy to move from your position.

I wanted to say something. Anything to break this silence that was so heavy. But I didn't know what to say. So, I did the next best thing; stay silent until the drive was over. The silence was so loud, I  could actually hear an annoying buzz in my ear...

Luckily Nico decided to speak up. "We should stop at a diner somewhere to have an early dinner. When we get to camp, there is no telling when we will be able to eat." Kyle and I nodded absentmindedly. Kyle stared out at the road in front, Nico stared of into the distance, deep in thought, while I looked out for a diner of some sorts.

                                                                                                  ***

It was already 16:45 pm by the time we found a diner. It was sort of big, maybe 600 square feet.

It wasn't all that fancy. A little formal. A little casual. Nothing eye catching.

But as they say, beggars can't be choosers. Not that we are beggars, but you get the point.

We all got out of the car and walked in.

What we didn't know,

was that we walked into danger...

And a monsters lair...
