"Ah" she gave a loud cry as a face appeared between the shelves.
"Gary don't do that!" Gary laughed raising one chestnut brown eyebrow.
"Sorry I just couldn't resist" he chuckled again whilst Lilly frowned, grabbing the book she sighed and plonked herself down into the nearby sofa, taking off her scarf she folded it neatly over the arm before settling down.
Gary settled next to her and stared at her for a moment "Haven't you got any work to do?" she said frowning into her book, trying to ignore him. He just grinned a mischievous grin.
" I want you to meet someone. I worry about you Lil's"
"That's very kind of you but trust me when I say you don't have too. I am perfectly content"
His grin disappeared to be replaced by worry. His caramel eyes glowing in the soft light of the shop.
"Look your what 20, 21 now? most 20 year old's are out partying seeing people and being social"
she raised her eyes from the book in front of her, gazing at him with a ferocious stare but he ignored it. Continuing to rant on in her ear, she zoned out, just staring past him and thinking.
Gary was sweet. She had known him since they were little kids and in a way she thought of him as an older brother as he was two years older than he. He was the only person apart from hr mother who she felt comfortable with. Behind that mischievous and cool facade was a boy who thought the world of her and she knew that she had known that ever since they first met in her mothers garden all those years ago.

It had been in the height of Summer. It was a warm day with just a slight hit of a breeze. The birds chanted and chattered high up in the trees by the wood next to her old house. Lying perfectly still she lay in the grass, looking up at the crystal blue sky not even a wisp of cloud as butterflies and bee's flew over her.
Her mother lay next to her and was reading Lilly's favorite story "Alice In Wonderland" Lilly had always wanted to find her own Wonderland and when she was really little she would often run into the garden, her little feet and hands desperately searching, trying to find holes but no holes ever appeared much to Lilly's disappointment.
Her mothers soft and lyrical voice floated towards Lilly and she closed her eyes. Seeing Alice and the Mad hatter in her minds eye.
Her mother abruptly stopped shutting the book. Lilly opened her eyes and that was the first time she saw Gary A small and weedy boy with chestnut brown hair and glasses. He was standing by Lilly's father and another man Lilly had only ever seen once or maybe twice. He was the local doctor.
"This must be Lilly?" the Doctor said giving her a huge smile. "This is my son Gary" he patted Gary on the shoulder giving him a small shove forward but Gary looked alarmed ad hid quickly behind his fathers back with just his small face poking out his mouth slightly open an inquisitive look on his face.
Lilly also afraid went to her mothers side and hid behind her long flowing skirt.
"Ah these two eh?!" The doctor said chuckling as her mother beamed down at her stroking her hair.

That had been the first time they met. Since then Gary had changed becoming less shy more outgoing at school he became the popular kid excelling at anything he tried. His mother unfortunately passed away after that he took over her book store whilst his father carried on being the local doctor.
Looking at Gary now he had not only changed in personality but also looks, no longer was he the small weedy kid with glasses and a few spots. Somewhere along the line God had decided to be good to him. The spots had gone his skin was now scarily better than hers. The glasses also gone, he now wore contacts, although if he was tired he would go back to his designer branded glasses.
He also always wore trendy clothes now and muscles had appeared along with some height.Yes God had been very kind to him.
