doors were banging and clanging sounds reverberated....

Turning towards the door there was suddenly a loud rapping. Someone was outside....

..........................................................................................................................................................................

Her fingertips hovered over the key board. Hardly daring to breath. In her head the words go away flew around in circles, repeating over and over in her mind.

The knock came again.

Feeling her  breathing coming out in short gasps she felt her chest tighten, putting her hand over her heart, she felt it convulse, squeezing her eyes tight shut she slid off the chair, sliding onto the floor.

The knocking continued.... never ceasing.... she could hear voices, many voices like a swarm of angry bee's  ready to charge inside and sting her  relentlessly. Shaking her head and putting her hands over her face she said quietly "Go away. Please go away"

The knocking stopped for a moment and she heard them talking.

"I think someone is in there" a man's voice glided through the door, deep and booming like one of those trailer voices for movies.

"Oh yes... they say a girl  lives in that flat  but she never comes out. I have only seen her once before, when I first moved in. She had an extremely pale face, poor girl, and  if memory serves me right, she was very weedy looking but that's probably because she doesn't get any light.  There is only one man who comes here occasionally, he leaves things outside for her then vanishes. It's all very bizarre, what a very strange girl!"

"Shush Patricia, she might be able to hear you" the mans voice said again with a slight warning to it.

"What?!" the woman snapped back grumpily.

Lilly had heard she was strange all her life. She had never  gone to school and was home schooled. But the neighborhood kids if they saw her would run after her calling her names. At first she cried, cried so many tears that she couldn't cry anymore and after that she  just became immune.

"JUST GO AWAY" she shouted, even surprising herself.

"See you upset her Patricia! Way to go!" said the man but he was abruptly cut off by a voice she   recognized.

"What's going on? Why are you all outside this apartment?"   Gary's voice rang out. She heard Patricia give a loud cry.

"That's the man who leaves things outside her flat!"

Gary interrupted her  "So what if I do? what are you all doing here anyway?" another voice she hadn't heard before piped up.

"We were just wondering if she would like to come to our meeting?"

"Meeting?"

"Yes our neighborhood watch meeting" Patricia chimed in proudly.

" I don't think she will but I will tell her. Thank you for taking her into consideration, If  I could ask you all to please kindly leave"

"Whats wrong with the poor girl?"  Patricia asked not hiding her curiosity in her voice.

"I don't think that's any of your business do you?"

"Humph. Well if you ever want to come to our meetings you will be very welcome" she said flirtatiously.

" No thank you" he said flatly shutting her down.

With that, all went silent for a moment  before Lilly heard a gentle tap on her front door. Getting up slowly she made her way to the door, cautiously looking  through the little peep hole she just saw Gary standing now alone in the empty corridor.

"It's okay they've gone"   he whispered.

Unbolting the various number of locks  she slowly opened the door to see Gary's kind face looking intently at her. He was clutching a shopping bag filled with goodies.

"Can I come in?"

Opening the door wider, he walked past her and into the apartment..
