“Sarah, to the guidance office, NOW!” Mrs. Hawk said. I looked up at her, all eyes were on me. I could feel their presence, their crave for drama. I picked up my bag and started walked; Next thing I knew I was on the floor; I looked to my right and saw Carmen laughing, she must’ve stuck her foot out and tripped me, but everyone else just thought I was wasted. Mrs. Hawk grabbed my hand and helped me to the door, I told her I was fine to walk but she didn’t believe me. She got one of the monitors to watch the classroom and escorted me to guidance. Before letting me enter, she looked me in the eyes. She was practically crying, “Please. Don’t do this to yourself, you are strong.” She hugged me tight, and then walked back to class. I stood their for a moment, I was tempted to leave and ditch class, but where would I go? I was about to walk away when the door opened.

“Hello. You must be Sarah. I’ve heard a lot about you. My name is Ms. Cane, but you can call me Sue.” Sue had light blonde hair, it seemed too blonde to be real, so I assumed it was dyed normally (her roots were blond too, so I wondered if maybe she just got her hair done recently). She was wearing a bright blue dress, it actually looked nice on her. She was thin as a twig and the dress helped show her figure; I never thought I would be jealous of an old women’s body (wrinkles and all) but I actually was.

“Hi, um, this must be some mistake, I-I don’t belong here. You see, yesterday I just came out of my recovery so um, I don’t really get why I’m being called here.” I was so nervous, I felt I was going to get into trouble.

“Well, I would say congrats on your recovery, that’s something to celebrate, but drinking vodka in a water bottle isn’t the way to do it.”

“You know?” I couldn’t believe it… It happened only 5 minutes ago in class, Mrs. Hawk never left my side at all (so she couldn’t have told her), so then how’d she know?

“You know, I was hoping to never see you in here. I thought you’d been changed and that everything would be better; You can’t drink away your problems.”

“Wait, I’m still confused.” I really was. I mean she looked all concerned and I didn’t see it as doing anything wrong. “H-how did you know I was drinking? And how did Mrs. Hawk know it too? I’m so confused.”

“Well I knew because while you were apparently reading some note Mrs. Hawk called me and told me. She said when you walked in the bottle was open, and while you walked by her, she could smell the alcohol, and she wasn’t sure where it was coming from though. Then she hung up with me when she saw you reach for the bottle, and the rest you know.” I was shocked, I thought I had a cap on it. And since when did Mrs. Hawk have a good sense of smell; On the first day of school some kid was smoking weed in the back, the entire class had their noses covered, it was nasty, and she just stood their teaching. I was so confused.

“B-b-but-but how? I-I-I don’t ge-“ I was cut off by Sue.

“Don’t worry yourself overthinking. Now, were going to have to talk with your parents about this, and then work out a suitable punishment and also a way to make your home a non-alcohol environment.”

“Good luck with that,” I muttered.

“Why would you say that?”

“I don’t have parents.”

“Of corse you have parents, how else would you’ve been born?” She was confused. She didn’t know anything about me and was acting like she owned me.

“They’re dead," I said.
