"Hey, Ash. Who's your friend?" Tally only glanced at me briefly before returning her attention back to Tate, who looked rather confused.
"I'm Tate," Tate rose from his seat and shook Tally's hand before I could say a word.
"Oh! Your Tate," Now Tally's attention was fully devoted to me, "So this is the guy you were talking about."
I didn't turn to look, but I swear I could feel Tate's smirk growing on his face. I scowled at Tally as she brought her hungry eyes back towards Tate who was now, I guessed, sizing up Tally.
I was guessing he liked what he saw.
"You didn't tell me he was so HOT, Ash!"
My startled expression made both of them laugh. I then realized I hadn't actually spoken during this conversation.
"What do you want, Tals."
"Didn't I already say that," I swear she was undressing Tate with her eyes, making me gag with my mouth, "I was worried about you. I knew odds were you were here since you are, like, always here."
I was going to defend myself, but instead chose to watch my good ol' friend and my mysterious new friend basically flirt without speaking a word. The body language was obvious. Tally would bite her lip and smile while Tate chose to cock his head to the side and smirk. They both knew what the other was doing, too. As if the two needed bigger egos.
Not only was their awkward mind flirt episode disturbing, but also irritating. I wasn't suggesting that I wanted him to, but why didn't Tate ever look at me the way he was looking at Tally. Was I not hot enough for him or something? I obviously had to be a little appealing to have the all star football player, Tyler Nickels, ask me out. That reminded me.
"Oh TALS!" I shook her out of her trance, "I have great news!"
"What!" She whined, obviously irritated that Tate was now looking at me instead of her.
I held back my victorious smile as I spoke, "Tyler asked me out! Like officially! You know! To be his girlfriend!"
Tally's shriek nearly busted my eardrum, "WHAT! WHY YOU LITTLE...AHHH! I KNEW IT! I KNEW IT! I KNEW HE WOULD! DID YOU KISS HIM?" I nodded shyly as Tally wrapped her arms around me, "That's my girl!"
"You should have seen it, Tals. He was the sweetest, most tentative date on the planet! He's perfect!" As I spoke I could see Tate's jaw set from behind Tally.
"If he's such a tentative boyfriend, then how come he wasn't the one to comfort you at the hospital today instead of me?" Tate's words startled me, making me remember mistaking him for Tyler earlier. I wondered if that irritated him. Guessing by the look on his face, it still did.
"Well, how was he supposed to know? I didn't tell him."
"You didn't tell me and I was there. You didn't tell your cute friend here, but she was there...eventually," Tally giggled pathetically at his words, 'cute'.
