Still standing there looking out through the peep hole in the door, Anemone Young was stock still.
"Who is it?" She called.
"Dear, you know who it is. Could you open the door?"
Doing so, she saw the woman as she had pictured from the description Garth had given her.
"Mrs. Knicks." She greeted, uncertainly with narrowed eyes.
"Call me Georgie. You must be Annie."
"Uh, yeah. Can I help you?"
"Can I come in? Women my age fall like flies in this heat." She joked and Annie stared at her in fascination as she stepped to the side and allowed her into her home. It was a good thing that she didn't have to be anywhere until the evening.
"Drink? Something to eat?" She suddenly felt glad that she had bought some basic groceries during the week she was crafting traps.
"My doctor doesn't want me drinking much caffeine so I'll have any soda with that in it. Ice cream too, if you have any." The woman smiled, seeming perfectly at ease around her and in her house while Anemone dug out a soda and dished her up a bowl of vanilla pecan ice cream.
"I'm guessing you finally went out of your way to meet me?" Anemone guessed and the woman smiled. It was one she'd seen before and used herself.
"I had the spare time while Mike was working and thought I'd stop by. You have a lovely place here and awfully large for one woman living on her own."
"Thank you. My parents handed it down to me and it's all I have left of them."
"Must be lonely." Georgie stated but eyed the place with understanding.
"Can be. By the way, I'd just like to say hello. My name is Anemone Young, although I'm sure he's already told you that. You must be Georgie Knicks. You'll have to excuse me if I act odd. I'm not the best with people right out." Georgie's eyes crinkled up with humor as she drank her soda.
"What is it you do?"
"I'm a psychologist. I handle clients with more...obvious disorders."
"Does it pay well?"
"I have no complaints."
"How long have you two known each other?" That made Annie blink in reply. How long had they known each other? A year now, maybe?
"About a year, now." Come to think of it, Georgie must have waited a while before she'd decided to come and introduce herself.
"I'm guessing you're almost half a year into your relationship...unless I'm getting so old my memory is dwindling."
"No, you have it right. I met him at my work and then again when he walked up to me and asked me if he could sit next to me." Annie hurried to assure her.
"Started out as friends. That's good; new for him." She said, taking a huge spoonful of her ice cream and shoving into her mouth.
This woman was incredible for her age.
"Did he make the first move?"
"No, but he didn't push me away either." Annie grinned. "Now that I think about it, I practically jumped the man."
"Good, he needs some excitement with the depressing job he has."
Anemone really liked this woman and like she had said before, she was a cool mom.
"You come here to confirm that I wasn't another...what did you say 'treacherous gutter snipe'?" Georgie stared at her with wide eyes and what could only be reddening cheeks.
