"How are you adjusting to the death of your ex-girlfriend?" Dr. Browning started once they were in his office with the door closed.

"Pretty well since I found out that she probably would've killed me if she hadn't been killed herself. She was the black widow serial killer that had been drifting around the country." Garth explained, rubbing his temples for a moment before he lounged back in his chair.

"Really?"

"Yeah, the news had connected her fingerprints as proof and said that whoever killed her saved my life. They say it might've been the person that's been going around killing serial killers."

"You've got quite the running streak. This is the first time you've had someone you actually knew in your morgue, right?"

"Yeah, it isn't always so easy to disconnect from them. I had been warned about how it can affect a person. No matter how many times you see a body get rolled in on a gurney beforehand...and then I found out about the black widow business and it made her death quite a bit easier to cope with."

"I noticed you were talking to Dr. Young in the lobby." He said, changing the subject.

"I didn't know she worked here until I talked to her a bit and when you clarified it. Why does she sit in there after her shift is over?"

"Not sure. I think it's just a bit of a break before heading home for her. She doesn't care much for driving. Do you like her?"

"I'm attracted to her and she was easy to talk to. Plus, she didn't get uncomfortable or freak out once she heard I was a coroner." Garth shrugged.

"Yes, I hear she's had quite a few...interesting clients." He commented.

"I saw her at the park once before seeing her here." Garth remembered suddenly.

"Oh?"

"She seemed upset about something, though, so I didn't approach her. She gives off a strange sort of vibe." He zoned out a bit, going back to how sad yet...

"How strange?"

"I mean like I got an odd feeling about her and I don't know how to decipher it."

"Good odd or bad odd?" Browning questioned.

"I'm not sure but I am very curious about her. I'm not exactly into dating so soon after a break-up, though...especially one like this." He scratched his head.

"Sounds like a good decision." Browning confirmed with a slow nod.

"I just hope I don't get bombarded with news people. My mother would hate that."

"Your mother?"

"Yeah, she came over while I was out not long ago; scared the shit out of me. I guess she had left a message or two before, but they were deleted."

"I don't think I have to ask who was responsible for that."

"Starting out as friends would be a good start, right?"

"You're back to speaking about Young?"

"Yeah. I know I'll have to cope with my thoughts and feelings about the less pleasant topic later. I can wait until I get home. My mother may be...older and seemingly fragile, but I know telling her something like this won't start up anything fatal."

"You're glad she's there."

"Yes...she and I have a good bit to talk about. Not just about recent events, but past ones too. I have a feeling she's been wanting to talk about my father for awhile."

"We haven't talked much about your father. All I know is that he left while you were young."

"He got...sick."

"Mental? Physical?"

"I don't know. All I know was that he got sick. Mom never told me anything else."

"Will you tell me once you find out?"

"Of course. I need to leave early, though. I promised my mom that I'd spend some time with her today. Til next time."

"Until next time, Garth."
