I wake up and did myself in a hospital bed.
"Thank god you're ok." I hear moms voice say.
I look over and see her sitting next to the bed.
"The horse. How is she?" I ask.
"She has a broken leg. Your dad is trying to nurse her back to health so she can walk again." She says.
"Austin. Where's Austin?" I ask.
"He is in the hallway. He has cried a lot while you were knocked out." She sighs.
"I want to see him." I demand.
"Alright. I'll see you in a little bit." Mom kisses my forehead and leaves the room.
I look around and see an IV and sticky things on my chest. Austin comes into the room and sits down next to the bed.
"How are you feeling?" He asks.
"Ok. My arm hurts." I say.
"Maybe because you broke it." He laughs.
"You think so?" I ask sarcastically.
"Yeah. I told you not to do that! You could have gotten killed!" He yells.
"Calm down. I'm sorry, but when I was on her, I felt so alive. I felt like I was flying and I could be anyone I wanted to be. It was the most amazing feeling in the world." I smile.
"You dumby. Your lucky your still alive." He shakes his head.
"Yes but you just don't understand. It felt like i was living my dream. Like it became reality. I can't wait to see her again." I grin.
"Well you need rest so go to sleep and I'll be back to see you later." He says as he hugs me.
"I love you best friend." I say.
"I love you too." He smiles as he leaves the room.
I turn the light out next to me and doze off into a deep sleep.

Austin's POV
I leave the hospital and ride my bike. My parents don't even know I'm here. They don't care about me at all. All they care about is themselves and they drink and do drugs all the time. I spend the night with friends a lot because I don't even like being near my parents. I just wish that I could have a mom who would cook for me and a dad who would teach me how to build things and all of tat stuff. Instead, I have a mom that is always out drinking with other men, and a dad that drinks at home, pigs out, and cusses and yells at me all the time. I wish I could get away from that mess.
I'm so glad Riley is ok. We've been best friends ever since we were in preschool.....

"Austin Welch you will be sitting out for recess today." The teacher says.
I sit down on the bench next to a little girl with two braids. Hmmm should I pull her braid? I think I should. Should I should I should I? Ok I'm gonna do it! As the teacher isn't looking, I lift my hand up and yank her braid as hard as I can.
"Hey! That hurt!" She yells.
She gives me this terrifying look and I feel the urge to run away so I hop off of the bench and run for my life.
"Ahhhhh!!! I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry!" I scream.
She leaps and lands right on top of me to make me fall to the ground. I'm lying on my back and she just sits on top of me, staring at my face.
"Why'd you do that?" She asks me in her high pitched voice.
"I don't know. Because I wanted to?" I say in a questionable voice.
"Well you know that really did hurt." She frowns.
"Sorry." I say, giving her a look.
"It's ok. So do you wanna be friends?" She asks with a smile.
"Um sure." I reply.
"Ok. My name is Riley Burgess!" She yells.
"My name is Austin Welch." I say.
She shakes my hand and then we go back to the bench.
"Tomorrow you two will be back on the bench for getting up without asking!" The teacher yells.
"Oh well." I smile.
Riley puts her arm around me and I put my arm around her. We sit on the bench smiling for the rest of recess.

I gotta admit the teacher was pretty mean, but if it wasn't for her, I would have never of met Riley. I have to confess, ever since I first laid eyes on Riley I've had a crush on her. I even do now, but I'm afraid to tell her. I know I know, I should tell her! Well I'm not going to because it would make our friendship awkward and I don't want to lose my best friend. Besides, she probably doesn't like me in that way at all.
When I get home, I notice both cars are gone. Yes!! The house all to myself. I go in and find something to eat. I pour a bowl if cereal and go to my room. The home phone rings so I go to answer it.
"Hello." I say.
"Is this the Welch residents?" A woman's voice asks.
"Yes it is. How may I help you?" I ask.
"I am calling about Austin." She says.
"This is Austin." I reply.
"Well this is the Kentucky Medical Heart Hospital. I'm calling about your tests and we got them in today." The woman says
"Oh that's great. What was on then?" I ask anxiously.
"I hate to say this, but you have a heart disease. It is called Cardiovascular disease. Most people don't die from it, but we will need to find you a new heart. It has to be a child's heart that is the same age as you. We will call if we do find you a new heart. If we do, we will have to operate immediately." She says.
"Oh ok. Thank you." I say.
"Thank you. Bye." She says as she hangs up.
I can't believe it. I have a heart disease. I'm not even going to bother telling mom and dad because they probably won't even care. At least I probably won't die from it.

Riley's POV
I'm riding on the horse in a big field. Ahead I see a bright beautiful light. The light is so bright, but it's so bright that it cannot hurt your eyes. We ride towards it as fast as we can. The wind is blowing through my hair. I have a white dress on, I have flowers in my hair, and I'm barefooted. As we get closer to the light, it seems like it gets farther away. The light has me in a trance, I can only keep my eyes on that light. We're almost there. I can almost touch the light. My desires are to go into that light. Suddenly the horse falls and I scream. Right before I hit the ground, I wake up.
