We Are One

Chapter 5

It's finally summer time. Dreamer's leg is completely healed and so is my arm. Tomorrow I get to run Dreamer. I'm so excited!

"Get ready for tomorrow Dream. It's gonna be special." I say.

"Riley!! Phone!!" I hear my mom yell from the house.

"Coming!" I yell.

I run to the house to answer the phone call.

"Hello."

"Riley, hey this is Anna Collins from school. I was wondering if you wanted to hang with me and the guys." She says.

"Um no thanks." I say.

"Now listen here! If you don't meet us at the alley in town tonight, then we will come kill your horse." She yells in a kind if quiet voice.

"What? You can't do that! I'll tell my parents!" I say.

"Tell them what you will, but they won't believe you. Your mom already thinks I'm a sweetheart." She smirks.

"Fine. Just don't touch my horse." I snap then hang up.

"Um I gotta go meet some friends in town. I'll be back." I tell mom and dad.

"Ok. Be back for supper." Dad says.

"I will!" I yell as I shut the door behind me.

I hop on my bike and ride on the country roads. What could Anna be up to? I'm kind of scared. I don't wanna be a wuss and I don't want to not show up. If I don't show up that will be a risk for Dreamer. I couldn't do that to her. I decide to stop at Austin's house so he will come with me. I knock on the door and there is no answer. I wait for about 5 minutes and still no answer. I go to Austin's bedroom window. I see him laying on his bed with headphones on. I knock on the window really hard to get his attention. He takes his headphones off and opens the window.

"What are you doing here?" He asks.

"Anna Collins called me and threatened to kill Dreamer if I didn't meet her at the alley now. Will you come with me so she doesn't try to hurt me?" I ask.

"Yeah. I'll have to sneak out though. Mom and dad are in the living room." He whispers.

He gets his backpack and he jumps out the window. Then he goes to the garage and gets his bike. We get on our bikes and go to the alley. When we get there, my hands literally start to shake.

"You okay?" Austin asks me.

"I'm so scared. I could never beat her and I know she will beat me up." I cry.

"Don't worry." He says as he hugs me.

Right then Anna and her friends walk up.

"Awe did you have to brig your lover boy?" She asks.

"He's not my lover boy. He's my best friend and we go everywhere together." I say.

"Sure. So I heard a rumor going around about what you said about me. I don't like that very much so it's time for me and my friends to teach you a lesson." She frowns.

"I didn't say anything about you!" I yell.

"I don't believe you little butch." She pushes me to make me fall.

"Don't ever do that to her again!" Austin yells really loud in Anna's face.

"Back off lover boy." Anna pushes Austin to the ground, but Austin grabs his chest.

"Austin are to ok?" I ask rushing over to him.

"My heart. It hurts." He cries.

"Do you have a phone?" I ask Anna.

"He's faking it" Anna says.

"He's not faking this! Someone call 911!" I scream.

"Come on guys lets go. Lets leave these fakers." Anna says.

"Austin stay here. I'll run for help." I say as I kiss his forehead.

I get on my bike and ride it as fast as I can to the nearest store. I run into the store and ask the first person I see f they have a phone I can use. A woman lets me use her phone and I dial 911.

"911 what's your emergency?" The person answers.

"Please help me. My friend just had an attack. I think it might be a heart attack. We are at the alley in town." I say.

"Ok I will send help. Just sit with your friend and comfort him or her whole you wait." The person says.

"Ok." I say as I hang up and give the phone to the woman.

"Thank you." I say.

I run back outside an ride my bike back to Austin. When I get there, Austin is passed out. I lay down on the hard ground next to Austin and put my head on his chest.

"I love you Austin." I cry.

The ambulance finally gets here and try out Austin on a stretcher. I get in the back of the ambulance and we ride to the hospital. When we get to the hospital, the people make me wait in the waiting room and I call my parents. Mom and Dad sit in the waiting room with me.

"It's been 2 hours don't you wanna go home?" Mom asks.

"No. I'm staying here until I here news about Austin." I say.

I sit in the chair trying my hardest not to cry. Austin is my best friend and I don't want anything bad to happen to him. We've been through thick and thin. Sure we've had fights but what kind of best friends don't? I remember when we were in 1st grade, and we were talking about marriage. We made a pinky promise that we would marry each other when we were big people. It was funny. For a whole day we went around telling everyone that we were gonna get married.

I also remember the time when we were at recess in 4th grade and we didn't hear the teacher blow the whistle to come in. We were the only kids in the playground and it started raining. We didn't so we danced with each other in the rain. He even picked me up bridal style and twirled around with me.

Another time in 6th grade, I got my very first boyfriend which was Kyle Barnes. I got my heart broken by him and I cried my eyes out for the rest of the day. After school on the bus, Anna started making fun of me about it and I started crying and Austin sang a Justin Bieber song to me to make me feel better. It was really sweet. He made me feel so much better that day.

Suddenly I see Austin's doctor walk down the hallway with a serious look on his face. He walks up to us and I stand up.

"Is he ok?" I ask.

"He's.....................
